Checking In

Thanks for all of the good vibes, prayers, jigs and well wishes. We're in the hospital and probably will be until at least Thursday. Brooks is a champion eater, and so quiet (he gets that from his dad's side of the family). John has been staying with me at the hospital which has been really nice too. I can't believe how sore I am, and I'm nervous about the recovery, but it doesn't matter.

Thanks Jenn for keeping on top of everything. I was so out of it for such a long time that I didn't really communicate with anyone. Long story long, I started laboring around 1pm on Friday, with defined timeable contrax by 2:50. The contrax got down to 5.5 minutes and stayed there for several hours so we went to the BC to get checked out. Nurse said go home, here's something to sleep see you tomorrow. Woke up and contrax were still about 5.5 minutes apart. As the day grew on they were farther apart then come back together. Went back to the BC that evening, they gave me morphin for the pain. Ah yes, the pain.

I have been having horrible back pains for the past 8 or so weeks. Well apparently my nerves are a little off kilter (technical term used by a the nurse here). Every time I had a contraction he would bear down on my nerves. This shot stabbing pains up my back to my shoulder blades and in the front down my hips through my mid thigh. I was able to bear with it and work through it for the most part, but then he turned.

He was a little posterior, then, as he descended, he became totally posterior, which is a harder time. So he's (for lack of a better term) backwards and my nerves are off kilter. After 50+ hours of this I couldn't take it any longer. I wasn't getting more dilated even though my water had broken. So I was transferred to the hospital. Here they gave me an epidural which took care of most of the pain. Yeah you read that right, not all of it but most of it.

After 14 hours of laboring here I had been stuck at 9.5cm and Brooks was not descending. The OB asked for one more hour (when you get transferred you get an OB, but my MW was still there) to see if I made any progression or if they could manipulate the cervix. After an hour no change, no manipulation possible, etc. A c-section it is.

The hospital has been great, fantastic staff and support, the food sucks, but oh well. It's much better than the hospital stays I've had in the past. They even let our birth photographer into the OR after he was delivered. Which gave us some of the best pictures!

Hope all is well with you and yours.

Much love,
MT and Brooks

  • The little guy already has a flair for the dramatics. He made quite an entrance! So glad to hear that everything turned out well. He's completely adorable! Looking forward to more pics.
  • That is quite a birth story! I'm sorry things did not go as planned for you guys but I'm so glad that Brooks is here and you are both okay. The pictures on facebook are so sweet and your photographer did a great job.  I hope you have a quick recovery from the c-section and are feeling better soon!
