Diaper parties

What the heck are these things  I am from northern Michigan, and I have never heard of them before moving to Toledo.  Someone explain.

Re: Diaper parties

  • It is like a shower for the men.  They have a party and all guests are required to bring diapers.

We did not have one of them.

but...why?  How did this tradition start?  So if the wife goes to the shower, and the husband to the diaper party, the couple should be giving two gifts to the new parents?

  • Honestly I have no clue how it started and why.  Like I said we didn't do the diaper party.

You seem a little offended by the idea though, why???  I'm not trying to be a b*tch, just curious.

Lots of people do it, but lots of people don't.  I'm sure it is pretty much just an excuse for guys to get together and drink and bring the couple an $8 pack of diapers.  LOL

Did your husband get invited to a diaper party or something??

  • Like Jill said, it's really just an excuse for the guys to get together and drink!  My DH had one, the guys had a BBQ and played poker.  It really helped us!  N8 is 13 months old, and we just bought diapers ourselves for the first time this month.

Ditto!  I've known several guys that have had them, and usually it's a casual food / beer GTG and all of the guys bring diapers and/or wipes.

I think it's actually a fun idea, because it recognizes the dad too, but without requiring him to do a typical baby shower -- no silly games, fancy decorations or favors, and the gift-giving part is easy...  No checking registries or giggling over baby clothes - just diapers & wipes! :)

  • I think dh has been to one or two. Usually the host has a keg of beer and you bring a pack of diapers to get into the party. We didn't have one. One of my neighbors has a 19 month old and they just finished going through all the diapers from their diaper party. If your not picky about diapers they can really help out!

Nah, not offended...just curious.  I had seriously never heard of it before I moved to Toledo and I am not from that far from here.

And no, he hasn't been invited...someone was just talking about one recently.

  • Ditto everyone else it's really just an excuse to get together and drink!
  • I never knew of this until I met DH.  This seems to be quite popular with the guys in his national guard unit.  Everyone shows up with a package of diapers in one hand and beer in the other.  I've gone to a few with him.

  • DH had one right before our son was born. Although he only had a small number show up, we received a good amount of diapers. I think it was a nice way for him and his friends to get together, have a few drinks, some good food(we had pizza, BWW, and some other small snack items, along with desserts), and to play cards. The guys that showed up had a really good time. They are popular in our family so we followed with it. I dont think its really asking for a second present(many of the guys that we invited are single anyways so they weren't at the shower and the ones that have s/o or are married, I'm not really close with their wives/girlfriends so they didn't come to the shower either).
