~SB (warning, boring house stuff)

Where do you shop for your fabrics? I've been trying to find good stuff for our guest room headboard & curtains and am striking out. Tried a bunch of websites and Joann. I love the stuff you used in your guest room and the printed curtains.

  • Probably not much help here, but when I lived in DC, one of the outlet malls (out in VA somewhere - total mind blank right now) had a Crate and Barrel outlet.  They had a pretty sweet fabric collection there.  If you have some outlet home goods/furniture stores near you, maybe check those out.

I also think Ikea has a fabric collection, but I am not lucky enough to have an Ikea in my town (yet - it is under construction), so I cannot say for sure.

  • Yeah, Ikea has some nice fabric. And CHEAP. Bethie told me her sister got some Ikea fabric and some stretcher frames and made wall art for cheap.

  • Ikea has awesome fabric. Also check out Sew Mama Sew http://www.sewmamasew.com/

If you find a fabric you like, search for it on Etsy before you buy it. A lot of Etsy sellers charge less to ship than the bigger sites.

  • Most of the fabrics from my guest room and the orange/gray/black print on the curtains are from Ikea.  I love their fabrics and the weight is really great for the price.  The pink houndstooth in the guest room I bought from a designer clearing out her stash (Jenny from The Little Green Notebook).  We have a local store here that has a ton of fabric books so I can order most of the big brands from them.

There are a lot of good stores online, but I am kind of hesitant to buy something without knowing the weight and the feel in advance.  You can get to the trade only fabrics at a few places online (http://www.decoratorsbest.com is a good one) Unfortunately, I have very champagne tastes when it comes to fabric, but a beer budget.  So I end up picking out $100+/yard fabric from websites like that every time.

  • Yeah, this is my sister's living room http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs471.snc3/25819_740478722763_22200614_41499236_8199879_n.jpg

She bought the stretcher frames at Ikea for $4.99 each and just got 2 cuts of fabric. Stupid cheap.

  • That's a good site, Bethie! I had no idea Ikea had fabrics and never would have thought to look on Etsy.

I nearly passed out at some of the prices of the stuff at Joann's.

I like this one a lot. Make sure you check the remnant bins; I got a giant remnant for like $4.

  • I love the Majken.  I wanted some of that colorway but they were out last time I was in Houston.

If I lived by an Ikea I would go every weekend.  It's an obsession.

  • I have a series of 7 photos I want to put in a single frame, so I'm counting on Ikea to have something that will work for that.

  • Oh Cali.  My hoseband broke two of my spice jars Sunday!  It was a tragedy.  Between that and the fact that he is "not sure" about painting the living room gray, I'm putting us at the top of the next to divorce list.

I know there is a 5 photo Ribba frame but I'm not sure about 7.

  • Damnit, it looks like they don't have anything!  Ikea, you have failed me!!  Well that sucks.  Anybody know a super cheap way to frame 7 4x6 photos?

  • Oooo, that's almost perfect.  I would prefer one where none of them are rooster-eyed.
