How is everyone doing with budgets and saving?
We still need to do better with not spending too much on eating out, but I'm doing better by bringing my lunch to work. After running out of town a lot all summer, we'll be spending more time at home on weekends this Fall and less on gas. Saving slowly, but surely. Opened a Way to Save at Wachovia and that is growing.
Re: Finance update?
we were doing really well, until we moved into our first house in may. we've been spending $ on furniture and other things for around the house. and it's quite a bit more than we've ever spend, so it makes us a little nervous. not only that, but we just bought a new car a few months ago, so needless to say, we are trying hard to bring our debt back down. we actually haven't been doing that bad in that we pay our cc off each month, and are agressively paying off the new car, so that we don't have to carry that loan for long, but i want to get back to saving aggressively, and putting more $ toward retirement, which we have put off until things are paid off.
yay for you doing so well!!
Well, I have to say that my steam died a little earlier this year. I guess with the vacation planning and throwing money at that for a while, our focus shifted.
You saw the SL news I posted earlier! That made me feel good to see that change in the leading numbers today...I have decreased payment on that to cover for the spending we have done on the vacation. With the interest rate as low as it is on that loan, I might keep my payment a little lower through the end of the year to cover upcoming holiday expenses with a bit more ease.
Gas is kind of eating me up right now I think. I know my personal budget (although not followed as strictly as our joint budget) has taken a slight hit, and I am feeling the pinch there. And with our joint budget, we had an increase in our cable service and we added Trugreen service earlier this year, so our joint budget has changed a bit. I think we have almost had all our Trugreen services for the year...maybe? I am not sure how they do it just yet. And I think we have decided to pick a few months of the year to make additional payments on the house rather than do it through the whole year. It will just give up more flexibility. Roth contributions continue for both of us...although it can be draining...it is nice to know that we are saving away for easier days in our future...
I just need to get on the ball and start planning out the holiday expenses! I usually pick amounts we will spend on everyone, and then break it up for us to contribute to the joint fund accordingly. I haven't planned for that yet. Maybe I will get us past the vacation....I don't know. I got to get energized about it again. It gets very tiring!
I know Dave R. will be here come October...and I am still interested in going to the show...maybe that will kick me in the rear and get me focused again.
We've also done some focus shifting. For holidays, we won't be having a Christmas party this year and are firm on the amounts we spend on people. I forgot about Dave coming here! I'm going to check on tickets for us to go see him.
Well right now I am currently crunching numbers and trying to make a budget for the approaching change in our life (baby).
So far I haven't done much. I know we need to start saving so much more but we already have enough in savings to cover all the furniture, hospital expenses, and etc. We have a set back though. We need a new vehicle before the baby gets here. We haven't been going anywhere and doing much b/c I haven't felt like it so that saved
I figured out this week that I can draw Short Term disability through work. So that is $200 a week that I didn't expect to get. So Yay!!!!!!!!!
