Bee removal

Anyone had Bees removed from their property before? We have a rotten bay window in the back of our house and although we were going to try and get it fixed this summer there seems to be a nice little hive of bees living inside the cracked/rotten underneath part...just wondering how much we might expect to spend on getting them removed! FWIW I think they are yellow jackets and not honeybees...

Re: Bee removal

  • I have no idea what it costs have an exterminator address the problem.

Just wanted to say that we addressed a similar issue with spray purchased at Home Depot.  Regardless of how you decide to address the issue DO NOT plug up the crack while there are still yellow jackets/wasps living there. They may end up eating through walls into your home to get out.

We've tried the raid, but it's up high enough that we can't get it IN the crack, just on the outside and they are back within a day or so...don't want to get a ladder up there because it would really suck to get swarmed by bees up on a ladder!

  • If it's yellow jackets or some other wasp and you can't reach up there to spray them, call an exterminator. It should just be a one time treatment and not too pricey.

If they are actually bees and not wasps, please don't kill them. They are already on the decline and are a very necessary insect. Look in the yellow pages for a bee keeper. They will come and safely remove the bees without harming them. My parents had this done and it didn't cost them anything.

  • We paid $95 for a one-time visit to get rid of a few wasps nests in high outdoor places and spray in the basement for crawly things.
  • If they are bees, you may want to post on CL and see if someone will rehome them.
