What resources if any have you girls, or anyone you know used to locate work in another city?

We are getting down and dirty with looking for a job for DH so we can move closer to my/our family however I feel like we may not be utilizing all resources out there.

He has his Associates in Criminal Justice, about 9 months from his Bachelor's in Psychology.  We've checked usajobs, faa, workintexas, Texas Youth Commission, checking local police departments in the DFW area, but that is a LONG drawn out process there. I don't too much rely on Monster because alot of those jobs just sound fishy.

How about his college work placement office? Or Alumni in FW that could help him?

What/Where is he doing now?

I bet you are SUPER DUPER excited to possibly move to FW!!!

I have a friend whose husband is a police officer in Aledo if that helps.

I would say start contacting family and friends and try to get those connections going if you havent already. Also contact maybe places like the chamber of commerce. Also check if there are any economic authorities and contact them (we have Louisiana Economic Development Authority for example). Also, check networks like Meetup and see if there are any networking connections you can make through that. Also, look into corporations and such in DFW area and see if there is anything relative to his education an experience. Hth! Oh one more thing, just find any places he is interested in and get contact info and email cover letters and resumes. If anything, it may establish a new connection. If i think of anything else, i will let you know!

You mentioned everything I thought of first off, but careerbuilder. There may not be a ton of exclusive jobs in that field on there, but the many hours I've spent on there looking, I have seen more than enough to think it won't hurt to check out. Not all those are scam jobs, like Monster seems to be. DH got his job off careerbuilder 2 years ago, but they found and called him. Not same field, but just saying it for legitimate purposes. I hope Joe finds something soon so you can be with your family!

I'm not sure if how your counties work in Texas, but if they are like California, each probation department, sheriff's dept., etc is tied to each county. So I would check county websites for openings. Also craigslist.org is what I use.

I used craigslist all the time. I received the most response from craigslist.

I also sent resumes to companie I would like to work.  I didn't care if they had opening or not.  That is how I got the job I have now.  I sent my resume for them to keep on file.  3 months later I got a call.

I don't know why, but hello college police... So I checked the local college and they have 3 openings! My cousin is a counselor there so she is going to put a bug in the Sgts ears at a all 3 colleges. There is also some openings at UNT.

We really needs y'alls prayers now more than ever! I have Faith the good man above is going to answer them.

Another small tip: Change your address on your resume to a local address in the city you are moving.  Use a family member's. For many reasons, recruiters don't like being bothered with out of towners when it comes to interviewing. Just be ready to go for an interview at the drop of a dime if needed.

Thanks! We will definitely do this.   I was on an interview panel today and took in alot of do's and don'ts that I will pass on to Joe.
