Throwback Thursday

Re: Throwback Thursday

  • I went with my boyfriend at the time, dh!  We were late because of my hair appointment and had dinner at a friend's house, her mom made a fancy dinner for us, and we ate in her garden.  It was at a fancy hotel in downtown Baltimore and the most memorable part of it were the whore-tastic outfits that some of the girls wore.  I'm talking basically bra and underwear under sheer "dresses."

I wore a slightly poofy Jessica Mclintock (as did a few other classmates), one of whom came up to me, and said, "I'm surprised your wearing that, I thought you needed boobs to carry it off."  I may have been a little flat back then, but the jokes on her now!

    Cute!!

I'll talk about my junior prom. The year was 1996...i went with my ex-bf/friend Matt, knowing full well that he still liked me. :-/ But i was pining away for Jason, whom i had just started to date, but we both already had prom dates. We went as a big group (including my older sister and her date) and went to a really nice restaurant. I wasn't the best prom date for Matt cuz i was kind of distracted by Jason and his date, so i feel really bad about that.

After prom we had a co-ed sleepover at my house. My mom had all of this food for us and it was so much fun!! No hanky panky went on though, we weren't those kinds of kids. I remember going up on to our roof with my best friend (she's a year younger so she didn't go to prom) and telling her all about it and talking about how much i liked Jason. (my bf also did my hair for prom)

Oh, and i wore a red dress that my mom made; it was a corset top and a separate skirt....soooooooo the fashion at the time! And my bf borrowed the dress for the next year's prom and she spilled beer all over it and didn't wash it. Awesome. :(

  • The school where I graduated was so small that the prom was for both juniors and seniors. I went both years. My junior year I went with a guy who's name I remember but don't remember how to spell, a Native American name.  Don't even know what happened to him. I don't remember anything about that night.

Senior year I went with my BF at the time, my HS honey as I call him.  We dated for 2.5 years in HS and my freshman year of college and still keep in touch.  He was the best prom date ever because he socialized on his own, danced with my friends as well as me, and was just fun. We went with another couple and had a college friend drive us.  After-party that a classmate's parents threw for us was a blast too.  Lots of fun, lots of memories. My HS honey said it was one of the best times he ever had.

On a side note, I almost went to the prom when I was a freshman. At the time I was sort of dating a senior. He got cold feet about going with me though and rescinded the invitation. I think he went by himself. He and I broke up not too long after since I decided he was being a bit of a douche.  The psychoanalyst in me thinks he acted that way because he was going away after HS to a military academy and was a bit nervous about it.  He called me 4 years later to apologize.  Strangely enough he had called my HS honey to get my number.  Ha! We became friends again, wrote to each other regularly, traveled together in Europe and the States, and have had many fun adventures together.  We are still friends. And I remind him every now and then about what a jerk he was back when we first knew each other. My almost-prom-date.

  • In Dominica we have High School Graduation Ball and College (2-year) Graduation Ball. So, I will choose to give the story of my HS Ball.

So, this guy, D who had been crushing on me all through HS (and I also had a crush on him - we became best friends) was supposed to be my date. Closer to the Ball date, I told my friend that I was waiting to have my first kiss at the Ball. Anyhoo, the week of the Ball, D didn't say one word to me so I summoned him to my home LOL. He came over and then told me he could not attend. Confused

So I had to call in my backup, Phillip! Poor guy!

He quickly agreed and picked me up. I thought I looked fine but not once did he say that I looked beautiful or nothing. He smelled weird and then apparently my friend told him that I wanted to experience my first kiss at the Ball and he swooped in for a kiss. FAIL. Ewe. LOL I think I would have preferred D but he disappointed me. We never quite got over that. LOL

    The Ball itself was fun.

  • My prom was a lot of fun. I went with some of my friends (most of my friends were a year younger and didn't go) and their friends. I was dating someone up to about a week or two before prom and since he didn't go to our school, he didn't want me to go with anyone else. He ended up dumping me shortly before prom though. We had our prom at the Marriott in Brooklyn and then our group drove around in our limo. I think we were supposed to go to a club in the city, but somehow it ended up being closed, so we just drove around and went "sightseeing" (we also managed to change into "normal" clothes at some point) - one of the guys had a car. We all had breakfast in a diner in Brooklyn and I remember getting home at around 8am and telling my mom how wonderful it was and that I wasn't tired at all, but she insisted I go lay down anyway, and sure enough I was asleep within minutes!
  • Great stories lady!  My senior prom was pretty fun.  I had broken up with my boyfriend a few months before the prom, so I didn't have a date. My good friend who was my favorite gay guy asked me to the prom and I said no! What a looser I was!  He never forgave me. :-(

Instead I decided to ask my friend who was a junior and a baseball star, but also the lead in the HS play.  We had a good time, he was very sweet.  I remeber we did a big group photo shoot at my friend's house and there was a big miror and I was checking out my hair and he said, "don't worry, you are the most beautiful girl in the room..." swoon! He was smooth for a 16-17 year old! Afterwards we came back to my house for a big co-ed sleepover.  My date had to go home super early for a baseball game. The rest of the group went away for the weekend on a great camping/whitewater rafting trip.  So many fun memories!

  • I didn't go to mine.  Most of my friends were older than me and graduated before me, I didn't feel any real need to go to prom. I can't say I regret it.
