Dear Community,
Our tech team has launched updates to The Nest today. As a result of these updates, members of the Nest Community will need to change their password in order to continue participating in the community. In addition, The Nest community member's avatars will be replaced with generic default avatars. If you wish to revert to your original avatar, you will need to re-upload it via The Nest.
If you have questions about this, please email help@theknot.com.
Thank you.
Note: This only affects The Nest's community members and will not affect members on The Bump or The Knot.
I realize the going rate will differ from region to region, but we're thinking of having one done and have NO idea how much to expect to pay. Have any of you had them done? Could you share with me how much it cost and about how much time it took please? TIA!
Re: Energy Audits
Well the term "energy audit" is a very gray area. The free ones done by energy companies are usually similar to what you can find online (how effcient are your appliances, what type & size is your water heater, etc.). Often they don't take actual electrical current measurements just use rules of thumb for everything.
More detailed energy audits can be done by local energy programs many of which are funded by the federal government. They can range anywhere from $100-300 for the average size home. But the true energy audits (which are the most accurate) do at least:
A whole house blower test where a fan is sealed in an exterior doorway which pressurizes the whole house and measures infiltration rates for your house.
Attach electric measuring devices near your electric box for an extended period of time. Ideally for a whole year to see each seasonal use.
Determine the true U-value of your walls, windows, doors, attic/roof, and basement walls.
So you really need to determine what level of detail you think your house needs depending on the age and what has been replaced.
I think there are a couple organizations that auditors can get certified with but I can't remember them off the top of my head. If you want I can look into the codes and organizations the department at my work (who does these) recommends.
HTH!
