Flakeslist?

So, I am on a mission to remove as much extraneous crap from my house as possible so my H and I have been listing a bunch of stuff on our local Craigslist. I can't tell you how many responses I get like, "OMG I am totally going to pick up your bookshelf tonight" only to be totally disappointed when they don't come. Is it just me? Is this a problem innate to Craigslist. Or, is it, as I suspect, because Reno is the flakiest place I've ever lived?

Re: Flakeslist?

  • I've been trying to give a rug away for like a month.  I get tons of e-mails but no one ever comes.

It's going to Goodwill this weekend.

  • I love living in a city where you can just put stuff out on the street and it disappears in an hour.

  • We live in the suburbs, not on a main street, and everything we've put out on our lawn with a 'free' sign has gone within an hour.
  • Selling stuff on Craigslist is hard because people flake like there's no tomorrow.  Giving stuff away for free is much easier.  People don't flake then.  Our table and chairs took about a week to sell.  The snow tires and couches were both gone within a couple hours.

  • Some of this stuff is just worth too much to put on the curb, although people do that here to a certain extent. I mean, the $200 IKEA bookshelf that we brought home and didn't even put together (and then were too lazy to return) is just not something I am going to put on the curb.

  • I shouldn't complain too much because our 2 older than dirt TVs sold within 2 hours and for the asking price. But, people have flaked out numerous times on things like bookselves and bike racks.

  • I know you were waiting with baited (sp?) breath, but someone actually bought the bookshelf tonight and took that monstrosity out of my house. Success.
