Young Professional's Network?
I'm new to the area, and while my husband was transferred for John Deere I am starting to look for work. I don't know anyone in the area- is anyone familiar with/a part of the young professional's network? I get their emails but am not sure if it is more of a "everyone just graduated from college, let's have a legit reason to party still" or an actual professional organization that would be beneficial to join?
Clearly I could just go and see, but I thought I'd ask around first!
Re: Young Professional's Network?
I'm not in the QC, but down here in Peoria there are several organizations that are great for professionals. They are all, in reality, social organizations in the end. It's really what you make of the organization when you join and go to events. I totally agree with you that it's hard to get an "in" when you are new in town (been there, done that with DH's job).
Other organizations to look into are the Jaycees and the Junior League. I think the Jaycess are bigger in Peoria, so more chances to meet up with someone in the right field. Both are great here in Peoria and offer LOTS of networking opportunities. Also check and see if there is a similar organization to the Peoria Newcomer's Club. Although it was not for me, I'm sure it has been helpful to someone since they have been around for over 80 years.
What kind of work are you interest in?
And I agree that you need to "go and see"!
[Sorry if this is alot of P-town info... there has to be more P-town lurkers!!]
Thanks for the suggestions- I did try to get more information on Junior League but their website "contact" went to an error site I'm guessing they're not super active. I'm trying to find some other volunteering opportunities on my own though! Maybe I'll just go to one of the young professional's events before joining and judge for myself!
I am looking in the nonprofit/social services field, have a few leads to apply for this week!
Sorry to hear that the QC Junior League website is down. Yes they are one of the smallest league's. I got their contact info from the international JL website:

I would recommend calling them. That's usually the best way to get things done in my league as well (from the outside). People change positions each year, plus the summer is usually more of a "downtime" historically.
I'm in the human services field . Trying to get out of it though. I don't have any professional contacts in that field up there, never made any since I never thought about living up there (maybe in the future 5-10 years from now). Best of luck!!! Keep us informed!
