PIP your card boxes Please!

Hey girls! I haven't been back on here in a while- hope everyone's doing well.

I was hoping for some help. I need some ideas for easy card boxes- my cousin is getting married and asked for my help in making hers. Its basically turned into me making it. It's not a formal wedding- its her second, his first so that had a private ceremony and are having a reception in a couple weeks. I have no idea what to do! I rented our card box so I didn't even make my own. Any ideas or pictures would be great! TIA!

  • I got a bare wood treasure chest from Joanne Fabrics.

This is a link to a paper mache one that you can paint as you see fit.

  • I don't have a pic of mine on my work computer, but it was SUPER easy to make!  I got the idea for mine from another Knottie.  The directions are a little long for a post, but if you want to PM me your e-mail, I'll gladly forward you the email that the other Knottie sent me, she even included pictures for reference!
  • My husband made ours out of an old wooden wine crate.  He painted it, added paper mache and roses.  This isn't the finished product but it gives you an idea.  I also suggest checking out etsy for ideas.  They have tons of card boxes that you can borrow ideas from.

  • Oh!  Mine was easy!  I'll try to get a picture up here sometime over the weekend.

    1.  I chose two square boxes (one a bit smaller than the other) I had received gifts in at my shower.

    2. I cut a hole on the top off the bigger one (the hole was smaller than the bottom of the smaller box) then wrapped it (keeping the hole open).

    3.  I cut most of the bottom off the smaller one and cut a slit in the top then wrapped it (keeping the holes open).

    4.  I glued the two boxes together and decorated with some ribbon, a sign that said "cards" and a couple fake butterflies.

  • I don't have a picture of it here at work I don't think, but ours resembled a wedding cake. We had three circle cardboard boxed (think hat boxes,) one slightly smaller than the next. We glued them together, covered it with white fabric and decorated it accordingly. We even put on one of those "fun" cake toppers and put a more traditional one on our actual cake.

  • I don't have a pic either but I took 4 photo frames and glued them together with hot glue and a short piece of scrap wood set to the same height.  The bottom was basically the same with a small piece of plywood cut to fit.  For the top, I cut another square of plywood to sit on the top of the scrap wood.  Cut a slit in the top and upholstered it with batting and fabric I got in the remnant pile at the craft store.  I put some of our engagement photos in the frames and added a swivel on the bottom so it would spin around.
  • I don't have a picture here, but we used a birdcage that I found at Marshalls. Our florist decorated it with some flowers that coordinated with those on the table (which were very simple...we grouped glass containers on each table and each container had a few blooms in them). I'll try to post a picture tonight :).

Ours was a bird cage we bought at Joann's.  It was a wrought iron color, so I spray painted it copper to match our color scheme, we printed out a sign on extra card stock we had, and attached it with a ribbon. Pretty easy, except for the spray painting, which just took time and patience.  If you don't wait for the paint to fully dry you end up botching it.

  • We also used a birdcage--sorry I don't have a pic from the wedding!

I too used a birdcage (jlk were total wedding twins, dress and all!). Mine was a muted wrought-iron (sp?) and I took 2 index cards (top one had "cards" printed on it and a wine-colored mat to match the bridesmaid dresses) and sandwiched a ribbon in my accent color, sealing with glue. Then just weave the ribbon through the bars and tie around the back. The whole thing cost under $20. GL!
