Almost weekend!

What are your plans for it, ladies?

A good friend of mine is going to be dropping by tomorrow for lunch. It's the last chance that I have to see her for a while-- she and her fiance are flying out to Alaska next week and are going to be living there for a few years, so I'll only see her when she's home to visit (and get married)!

Tomorrow night, I'm going to a roller derby "bout" with my MOH. Neither of us has ever been to one before, and we're looking forward to the "Turnpike Tussle." Bring it on, Philadelphia! LOL

Sunday will be trying out a new church and then buying a new computer. Checkbook says ouch. Hopefully some pool time after that.

Re: Almost weekend!

  • Well, the weather forecast says rain for most of the weekend... but HOPEFULLY, we can sneak some pool time in between thunderstorms.  We absolutely HAVE to get the yard mowed before the rain hits.  Other than that, nothing major planned... we may hit up a monster truck show (once again, yes, I'm from Alabama!!!) since I've never been to one, but if it rains, I'm not going.

Other than that... hopefully get some reading in.

  • Our nephew is being baptized tomorrow, and HH and I are the godparents :)
That's about the extent of it.. we both work all Sunday :/
  • I love monster trucks :) Last time I almost went to monster jam though a little boy got hit with debris and died. So i'm not so interested in going anymore... the Tacoma Dome is NOT a good venue for monster trucks.

Hopefully this weekend I want to take the dog out for a hike out by this creek where Brandon likes to go camping. I wanna check it out and perhaps we can take her camping with us out there sometime :)

Dumb question... but the whole godparents thing... is that specifically for one type of religion or what?  I'm pretty clueless when it comes to stuff like that

  • I don't think there are specific rules stu, if you want to have "god parents" you can just have em. Though religiously I think "god parents" are supposed to help teach the kid religiousy things besides taking care of em if you croak

I believe it is mainly just for Christians overall but it could be for just one specific religion. I'm not really religious so I'm not 100% sure

I think that it is just a Christian thing, and specifically pertains to the Catholic churches and the Protestant denominations that are the least removed from the Catholic churches. Like, Baptists don't have godparents, but they don't baptize babies, either. Ever. Methodists baptize babies more often than not (I will not), and I think they can have godparents if they want, but don't have to. I believe that the Orthodox churches as well as Lutherans, Anglicans, Episcopalians, etc. tend to do the godparent thing.

  • Tonight we're going out to eat and grocery shopping. Tomorrow its supposed to rain but if it doesn't we'll be cutting grass and pulling weeds. Plus I need to clean the house, do laundry, and HH has to change the oil in both cars. Sunday we have church but other than that I have no idea.

  • Apparently my uncle decided that he was never going to find anyone that would be "the one" so he decided to order a bride. She just got her paperwork cleared and they are now getting married tomorrow. He doesn't want any of my family to know but he needs a witness so that's what DH and I are doing. Should be a blast :) Besides that...starting and FINISHING my thank you notes this weekend of top of studying for a test.

Now that sounds like an interesting weekend!  What kind of gift do you give for a mail order wedding?

We don't have any plans, but it looks like it will FINALLY be warm enough to go to the beach, so that will probably be the plan.

I am Catholic, and am Godmother to two of my nephews.  In the RC religion, you have two Godparents, but only one of them needs to be Catholic.  e.g. HH and I could be Godparents to a child, because I am Catholic, even though he isn't.

This actually happens outside of Law and Order episodes??  Can you please tell me how this works?  (Not being rude, I'm just curious!) Thanks :)

I have no idea how it actually happens. I know that he was talking to someone before our wedding in the Philipines because he RSVPed for 2 and no one knew who the second person was (he is like 65, has a bunch of college degrees because he didn't want to leave school and have to go to the "real world", and has never had a sig.other of any kind). That's when we found out that he was talking to someone from there and that he was trying to get the paperowork for her to come over here but that was it. Wednesday night he called me to tell me that her paperwork had cleared and she was coming over and they were getting married on Saturday and that he would like me there as a witness and that I was not allowed to tell anyone. I am not sure how it all went down in the beginning but I know he found her online. It should be interesting. No one in my family was happy when they first started talking because, well she likes rather young in pictures (like maybe 19 tops).  I'll keep you guys posted on what happens :)

  • This weekend is take the daughter to the dentist. Then go grocery shopping. Then its all about the BBQ play in the pool and have fun with the kiddos hanging around the house. I am gonna try a new cupcake recipe with peanutbutter frosting. we shall see ( mentioned that earlier this week I think). I am going to do some white chocolate covered pretzels as well. I can't wait for 4:30 to roll around so I can leave this office and my weekend can officially start!
