Portland Area with 2 yr old?

On the 26th I'll be traveling from eastern Oregon to the Portland Area with my 2 yr old and am looking for some kid friendly places to go with her. I am on a budget so any free things would be great! I am planning on taking her to the Zoo, so any sites that may have coupons for admission or anything inside would be great too. Thanks!

  • Right next to the zoo is the childrens museum, it's perfect for a 2 year old! Also there are several fountains in downtown Portland, at Waterfront Park, that are fun. My toddler loves to splash there!

  • Are you here only on the 26th? On the first Friday of the month, the Children's Museum is free in the evenings. On the first Sunday of the month, OMSI is only $2; OMSI has a smaller but still fun little kid section kind of like the Children's museum.

There are lots of free options. There are many water features popular with little ones. Jamison Square in the Pearl and the waterfront fountain are a couple of the most popular. There is a really awesome ice cream shop on the SW corner of Jamison Square. Near the waterfront fountain is the Portland Saturday (and Sunday) Market, which is kind of a craft market and street festival; very Portland. There is also the Portland Farmers Market on Saturdays by PSU, which is a great place to bring kids (there are lots of read-to-eat booths). If you aren't here on a Saturday, there are many farmers markets in town on different days.

Portland Parks and Rec has free concerts, swimming pools (at certain times), and outdoor movies.

In general, I find that most (non-fancy) restaurants in town are pretty good about kids. While you are in town, you should check out one of the local breweries. It's very Portland. Rogue and Deschutes are downtown. I haven't gone to either yet with DD, but I've been pre-baby I think they'd be cool with it. Laurelwood Pub on the east side has a kids play area. If you like BBQ and are in NE, Russell Street BBQ is delicious and very kid friendly.

  • We have a two year old and take her almost anywhere including most restaurants. As for entertaining her, she likes the zoo and the children's museum. I didn't know that about OMSI so we'll have to go there sometime as well. Near the Rose Garden in Washington Park is also a big playground. The fountains are nice though they kind of gross me out because they all have reclaimed water. I don't know if I want DD to play in that.

Hopworks is another brewery in SE that has a kids area with trains and a black board and stuff. The Lucky Lab is pretty kid-friendly too.
