Ridiculous Question Re: iPhoto

I feel kind of embarrassed to ask this question, but I know someone here will be able to help me!  I am a PC user and can navigate my Sony Vaio like no other, but I am using a Macbook to create a movie/slideshow for our wedding reception next week and having some issues.

For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to import picture from my Canon point and shoot to iPhoto.  I connected the camera to the Mac with the usb but it's not registering as a source on iPhoto.  I'm assuming I'm going to have a similar problem when I connect our camcorder.  With my Sony, a window automatically pops up when I plug in the camera and it asks if I want to import.  This isn't happening here.

Can anyone tell me where I go next?  This is a Mac my husband borrowed from work, but he has never used one either!

Also, can an iMovie incorporate video clips and still shots? Just curious - hoping these programs are as easy as everyone says they are!  TIA, everyone!

Re: Ridiculous Question Re: iPhoto

  • Well considering the card works on your PC but not on your mac the problem is possibly with the way your SD card is formatted. If your SD Card is formatted in NTFS you may have trouble reading and writing to the card which may cause issues with iPhoto. You can check this by plugging the card into your Sony and right clicking it and checking properties. In the event it is in NTFS you can try backing up your photos and formatting the card in FAT32 or EXFAT. These formats have compatibility to read and write on both Mac and Windows operating systems. Also, double check the manufacturer for any upgrades to software, drivers or hotfixes that may solve your problem. Hope this helps!
  • It should register as a source in iPhoto on the left nav or as an icon on the desktop.  Then, you can either import using iPhoto, or if that's not working, maybe you could just transfer the files to the desktop and then let iPhoto import them from there. If none of that works, could you transfer the pics to a USB drive and use that to connect to the Mac?

  • Find "Image Capture" in the Applications folder and start 'er up. When you connect your camera, it should appear there and will be a drop-down menu (in my version, it's on the left-hand side at the bottom of the sidebar) that lets you choose what you want the computer to do when the camera is connected - one of the options should be opening iPhoto.

And if that doesn't work - I have no idea. :)
