Portland Running Clubs?

I am looking to get with a club that runs once a week or two, but I haven't been part of one so I don't know the first thing about one. I am pretty much a beginner, but I have hopes and aspirations of completing a marathon by the end of 2011. I am in East county if it helps, but i will travel as far west as downtown.

Thanks!

Re: Portland Running Clubs?

  • I can't help you much since I just moved here, but I am interested to hear what others have to say!  I'm a long-time runner, but usually run by myself around my neighborhood.  I'd love to get involved in a running club too.  I've done a few half-marathons, but never a full marathon, and also have a goal to finish one by the end of 2011.  Hey, if all else fails, we can always start our own!  ;-)

  • Jenn, what part of town are you in? Maybe we could meet up and start a Nest Running Club??

I started running last year and did several 5k's and even a 10k. Then I got a stress fracture and couldn't run for about 12 weeks. Got released to go back, ran for about 6 weeks (off and on), went on vacation for 2 weeks & came back, then had surgery. I was restricted from running for about 7 weeks. I feel like I am practically a beginner.

I went running three times this week. Tues 3.1 miles in 45 minutes, Wed 4 miles in 64 minutes, and Fri 3.1 miles in 41 minutes. I can't seem to run more than 15 minutes at a time. My legs just get soooo sore and tired. So if you are interested in running with a fat newbie who has a pace of about 12 minute mile I think we might work out!

  • I'm interested too!!! I actually just ran my first 5k...it was the race for the animals sponsored by go veg --- buttt the whole first half was up hill on a trail...it was probably dumb to pick a trail run for my first 5k. HAHAHA I'm in SE -  where abouts are ya'll?

  • Hey! Congrats!

I am in east county. But I will travel as far as downtown Portland. I ran a lot on Marine Drive and the Spring Water Corridor trail last summer.

  • I think where we live is considered Southeast Portland (I'm sorry -- we're new here so I don't know my geography that well yet!!!)  We're in the Mt. Scott area -- right on the border of Happy Valley.

I used to run cross country & track in high school, but I've gotten reeeallly slow as I've gotten older.  I don't think the huge hills in my neighborhood are helping much either!!!  It would definitely be fun to start a Nest running club!
