Bye Bye Weekend...

I hope from the lack of posting around here that we all had a good weekend!

Yesterday we saw Knight and Day, which was amazing!  Tom Cruise would be pretty attractive to me if he were a bit taller and a less crazy.  Or maybe it was just the character he was playing...

Today we saw Despicable Me.  It was cute, but if you're on the fence wait for Netflix.

Tomorrow evening we have a showing of the apartment so I cleaned a lot this morning and I have to finish tomorrow morning.

I almost bought a Nook today with my tax refund.  I'm on the fence.  Anyone have one?

Re: Bye Bye Weekend...

  • OMG we had one of the best weekends since we got married! We went down to Jersey to visit one of our best friends. Friday night we got there, and went to a byob mexican restaurant where you buy the margaritas, and you bring your own tequilla! soo fun..mmm

Saturday,  we took off for Atlantic City, hung out at the beach, and went to a beach bar that was soooo nice. My husband said he hasn't seen me that relaxed in a whiiile.

Saturday night, we took the Patco (subway in philly/jersey) to Philly, where we walked around and went to an awsesome Cuban/Columbian restaurant where they had about 15 types of Mojitos...I had melon which was soo strong but soo good.

    Sunday, we drove home. bleh.

  • hai!

i commented on your FB status re: the nook (well, really it was just how much my mom loves her kindle..so if you're thinking of getting something of the sort i suggest it!). stop over at the gadgets & tech board and ask their opinions, they always seem to have some pretty good knowledge.

as for us, we put an offer in on a house this past weekend. it's in pristine condition. pristine 1970's condition, ha! i didn't know 30 year old carpet could look so good. or so lime green! the house needs a total overhaul, but is totally move in condition and liveable so that we can do things one by one. we were supposed to hear their response yesterday, but apparently 4 sisters have to make this decision and their REA couldn't get ahold of all of them (someone is traveling and refusing to answer their cellphone). so, guess we'll see today.

sounds like you girls had fun weekends for sure!!

  • Sandra - I want to see Dispicable Me, but H and I wait until movies go to the dollar theatre. I can't justify $9.50 a ticket when I know in 3 weeks we can pay a dollar apiece!

Alise - your weekend sounds awesome! How did your H's thing go with the big Japanese buyer?

Jen - I hope all goes well with the closing process! There is no way H and I could have redone a house. We love to do that sort of stuff, but between his 2 jobs and me working and in school, we could have never done it. Is this a starter house for you two or do you plan on staying there forever and ever and ever?

As for me, we had a great weekend. We went on Friday night to the amphitheatre to see 'Planet Earth' accompanied live with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. It started thundering and lightning like crazy and the rain was blowing in under the cover, so of course we got soaked. We hunkered down under a poncho and enjoyed the concert (I PPH thunderstorms, so it was awesome for me). We had to walk back to the car in some of the hardest rain I've ever seen, and found a creative way to pass the time while we waited for all the traffic to clear out of the lot. Saturday and Sunday we spent a lot of time relaxing. We started re-watching 'Friends' and I cooked some yummy dinners.

My doc has me on a very specific diet (The Schwarzbein Principle) so I spent a lot of time in the grocery store and reading the book to get aquainted with how I have to eat. On the plus side, I feel 10x better!

  • they haven't accepted our offer yet, but it's so beyond reasonable that if they don't accept it we will be offended and walk away. it doesn't need anything major really. the carpet needs to be ripped up, but there are hardwood floors underneath that just need to be refinished (and a part of it where they covered the vent and put in plywood needs to be dealt with). the kitchen is actually in great condition, it's just old (the dishwasher has faux wood paneling on it to match the cabinets...LOL), so we would eventually get new countertops & cabinets, rip up the linoleum and put down tile and update the appliances. the bathroom probably would be the most work, since there's ugly light blue tiles all over the walls and an ugly mint green sink. but it's all very liveable while we take our time doing those things. we certainly have the time. or at least i do!

    what's this diet you're on? i'm intrigued!

  • Ashley: It went well...DH didn't say too much about it, but he gave him a tour. Pretty much, there are two guys that are business partners (one in the US and one in Japan). They sell product's from the other's country. So, the US guy bought the syrup and sent it to the Japanese guy to sell over there. DH didn't ask how it's been selling, but I'm sure it's doing fine if the guy wanted a tour.

     Jen: goodluck with the house!

  • That doesn't sound too bad. My IL's just bought a beach house that was built in the 70's and redid the inside and now it's amazing.

The diet is called the Schwarzbein Principle. It's written by an endocrinologist (Dr. Diana Schwarzbein) and it's designed to balance your hormone systems and regenerate your metabolism. Because I've been eating 'weird' for the past 10 years due to food allergies/intolerances, my naturopath has me on this diet to try and straighten everything out. It's very easy to follow, it's actually very counter-intuitive to popular diets of low-fat or low-cal. You eat 3 meals and 2 snacks a day of what she calls 'square meals' (balanced meal of protein, fat, non-starchy veggies, and a small portion of carbs). It's hard to explain, but her book is great, and very common sense.

Jen, that's exciting about the house!  I'm glad you and your H agreed on something.  It sounds like exactly what we were looking for when we were looking - I'm jealous!

We had a busy weekend, as always.  Saturday we went to H's parent's block party.  H's high school girlfriend married BIL's friend, so she was there. It was super awkward because she's a megabitch, and I'm fairly certain she still has feelings for H.  After 9 hours at the block party, we headed over to a friend's birthday party.

Sunday H worked and I worked out, and then we went to a triple graduation party.

I'm working a four day week this week, and Friday can't get here soon enough!

    Oh my!

In other news, I now own a Nook.  And some guilt for spending my tax refund instead of saving.  Buh.
