I'll add to your list of people who say pit bulls are nice dogs

but I do want to add, I took Daisy for a run a month ago in my neighborhod, there were a couple strays (maybe just loose neighbor dogs, idk). One was a pit bull, other some hound, so bigger dogs. They left us alone when we jogged by. We were also followed by a boxer some moron neighbor let off leash, again big dog, didn't bother us. But omg, the neighborhood Chihuahuas are vicious! They went after Don, BIL, my brother and me at different points! And there was also a beagle/mix that was obnoxious and wouldn't leave me and Daisy alone. Point is, I've had more bad experience with small dogs than big dogs
Yes, I have seen my BIL and MIL's pits fight and latch on to eachother's snouts and it was scary because of their strength, but that's a dog dominance thing, sometimes fights break out at the dog parks with any breed/mutts, never with a person though. But, BIL's pitbull (and MIL's too) have been nothing but big babies to me, taking naps on me, needing attention. And I have no doubt BIL's dog would take a bullet for me, they are some of the most loyal dogs. BIL almost got jacked in his car once, and his dog cracked the windshield trying to protect him. A friend recently found a pitbull stray that showed up at her house. Sweetest dog ever, and she has 3 stepkids and a couple other dogs.
All I'm saying is, pits need love too, and they'll return it a million times over. Don't turn away from a dog just because of his size! Any dog will be a loyal, loving dog if the owner's give some time, respect and patience to the pup

sorry, I just heart animals. That's all!
Re: Becky
Growing up we always had big dogs. When I met DH his parents had some big dogs and they were fine. I was attacked by a dog when I was about 11 or 12 and ever since then I am not a fan of other people's dogs.
My preference is not to have a big dog in the house.
I totally agree with the pittie thing. I love both of mine and they were big babies, but they are/were both territorial. If you have any concern at all, they are totally not the dog for you. You have to be able to look them in the face and have not one single ounce of fear towards them. That saying, I love big dogs, I will always have big dogs.
But Becky, I love me a little doggie I can pick up and snuggle with. Most of my family members have small dogs since they travel alot and can take them along. Im always carrying one of them around. Not so easy with a 85lb bulldog. There are many times I wish I had a small dog. Like you know, the times Im cleaning boogers and slobber off my husbands car windows after a long ride.
BIP - I'm just throwing this out there, Buddy's a cocker spaniel and he's got a TON of health problems. I know they're like a troubled breed but poor Buddy has like every problem they can get. He's a great dog, loyal and he listens well but yeah the vet bills KILL me.
I'm a firm believer that anyone can make ANY breed vicious. I have a friend with 2 kids and a pit. And the pit was around before the kids, but it is SUCH a friendly dog like you wouldn't know it was a pit without actually looking at it. And it is great with the kids. Get whatever you're most comfortable with, but attitude has more to do with the owner and how it was trained than the breed, IMO.
