I will try to come back when I have more time to add to your list, but I just wanted to say that regarding diapers (we do not CD, so this is regarding disposables), be careful with the Pampers diapers.  This totally may not affect you, but Pampers recently changed their diapers to some "new and improved" formula with Baby Dry as their new marketing campain.

We were TOTAL Pampers lovers with Isabella.  I would not use anything on her but Pampers Swaddlers, and then when she got to size 3's, Pampers Cruisers.  They were the softest diapers, and super absorbant, and we LOVED them.

With the new Pampers though, Isabella developed this severe diaper rash. And it would not go away with diaper cream (it would get a little better, but unless we were constantly putting diaper cream on her, it would keep coming back). At first I had no idea what caused it, and then it got really bad after one night when she pooped overnight, and it was bleeding and red and awful.  Once it got bad, we found out at that point it was a bacterial thing, and we had to get a prescription to make it go away.  I also found out that a LOT of moms had noticed SEVERE diaper rash/chemical burn type things on their kids very similar to what Bella had after using the new Pampers.  My own personal theory is that at first she had some sort of severe diaper rash or chemical burn from the new Pampers, but then when she pooped over night and slept in it, it got infected and turned into the bacterial thing.  Obviously, I have no proof that it was Pampers that caused it, but I can tell you that switching to Huggies made a HUGE difference.

So, I'm totally not trying to scare you.  Every kid reacts differently to different brands, and if you use Pampers, you could totally not have the same issues.  But I joined a forum where a lot of moms reported almost the exact same thing, so I definitely have stopped using them.  Plus, the "new and improved" versions seem to be thinner and not as soft as they used to be.  I'm sad since I adored them, especially the Swaddlers, but I have no idea what they did to them, but it does not agree with Bella at all.

So, just be cautious with the Pampers, and if you see a red circle type diaper rash appearing that won't go away, try switching diapers (really, try this with any diapers you buy since all kids react differently to stuff), and see if that helps.  Again, I am not trying to scare you at all, but just be aware that if your baby has any sort of reaction or diaper rash that doesn't seem to get better or go away within a day or two, take him/her to the pediatrician, and also try switching brands.  It may make a big difference.

  • OMG, I'm so glad you posted this! I was totally going to buy the Pampers Swaddlers! I'd read so much (a while back, probably before they changed them) about how moms looooved them. But I definitely don't want to take the chance if you and a bunch of other moms experienced this. Better to just avoid it, if possible. I'll stick with Huggies -- thank you!!
  • I was JUST gonna page you about this as well. We haven't used Pampers for a long time, and luckily we didn't have any problems. But I've read the news stories and whatnot.
