Grammar girls, help please.

Are there rules when putting a dictionary entry in a paper or essay?  I am writing just a 500 word essay and at the end I wanted to put in the dictionary entry for the word Grace.  Do I need to cite the entry? And if so, does the citing go towards my 500 word limit?

Also, the entry for Grace has 20 uses.  Only a few of the uses apply to what I am saying, can I pick and choose which ones I use.

Thank you for any help.

  • I probably wouldn't do a full citation.  I would say: The Oxford Dictionary (or whatever dictionary you use) defines grace as, "<definition>".

That way, you can also choose whichever of the 20 uses you'd like.
