Homemade Bread Storage

I was wondering if any of you have a good way to store homemade bread.  I usually end up using aluminum foil, which I do not like because I always end up tearing it.  I have used Ziploc bags in the past as well, but they do not seem to hold up well to repeated uses.

Re: Homemade Bread Storage

  • Are you using heavy duty aluminum foil?  I don't have a problem with it tearing, at least for awhile.  I reuse it multiple times, and recycle it if it tears.  As long as there aren't food particles left on it, our recylcing collects it.
  • i slice the bread after it has cooled & put it in a bag in the freezer.  we cannot eat bread that quickly & just take out a slice or 2 at a time to thaw in the microwave or toaster oven.
  • I got the snapware glasslock set from Costco, and one of them is about the size of my loaf pan.  I usually have to cut an end off before I can fit it in, but otherwise it's a perfect fit.

It might be this size, or something close to it:

They sell them individually at bedbathandbeyond.

  • I usually bake two loaves at once.  I put the one loaf in one of these and keep it in the fridge:

  • I got one of these OXO storage containers.  Not sure the exact size - used a 20% coupon at BBB

That container is awesome!  I am very tempted to add it to my wishlist =]

For now I just reuse bread bags that I get from the store with rolls and other breads I didn't make, and they wash and re-use well so far.

  • I do not usually use a loaf pan, so the shape is not important.  The reason that the foil tears is because I am clumsy. My husband has no problem with it, but I cannot ask him to open and close the bread every time I want to get some out.

I really like the container from King Arthur.  I will try to get one of those, it would make me like homemade bread a lot more.  I do not mind cooking it, but it is harder to consume.

Just leaves me with the problem of finding a light bread. So far every recipe I have tried is very dense.
