Insanely frustrated! HELP!

Hello Nesties -

 Three weeks before my husband proposed in February 2009, I was laid off.  Since then I have been in and out of work, holding one job for 4 months and another for 6. 

At this point I have driven myself into a depression because I literally have lost my identity. I supported myself for seven years, living alone, in Chicago, and now I live with him, am financially dependent (believe it or not I made $15,000 off of eBay last year trying to bring in income), have moved into his condo, I mean our condo, in Logan Square from my condo just off of Michigan Avenue...you get the idea.  Has anyone been there?

I haven't been in your situation but I am really sorry that you are going through this. I hope everything gets better for you!

I'm sorry it's been so hard. I kinda know where you're coming from as I've experienced similar changes in my life. Hang in there and it's what you make of the situation. Do you have a good support system of friends and family?

Oy. That's no fun!  My hubby and I have been, well, financially struggling since we got married... and that was only 2 months ago. I've been doing 2-3 part time jobs while he's been looking. It's been quite frustrating... and tiring... I understand how difficult job searching can be!  I really hope you get something that sticks! It's a shame finances can become such an issue in marriage....

I know how you feel. Two years ago DH and I left Chicago and moved to Omaha. Long story very short, I haven't been able to find a decent job here. I was out of work for a few months when we got here, and found something that I thought would work for the time being. It was a nightmare. I was there six months. A couple of months later I found a different job that I had reservations about, but again, I needed money. They fired me after a month for reasons that I'm convinced were fabricated. After that I was unemployed for almost a year. My unemployment ran out. I had interview after interview and no offers. In April I applied for a customer service job. I didn't want to do it, but with zero income it was better than nothing. I was depressed when I couldn't find a job and now I'm depressed because it seems like the only thing I'm qualified for is a crappy CS job that pays less than my first full time job (which was also CS) 13 years ago. WTF is that about? I hate this town, I hate the job, and I miss home. So yeah, I've been there. Kinda. Am there. Whichever. Life sucks. I wish we could get together and drink our sorrows away!! LOL

Could you submit your resume to a temp agency?  I've known several people who have worked so hard on  temp jobs that they'e been hired fulltime at some fantastic corporations downtown.  Even if it's not what you want, it might be a way to get in the door and allow your talent and work ethic to be noticed.  It's tough, but keep churning out the resumes, following up with phone calls, networking, etc.  I went to DePaul (both for my Bachelors and Masters), and I know we have a pretty useful alumni networking group that matches young professionals with established leaders in their chosen field.  Perhaps see what your university can do for you.
