My H now has a job (YAY!), so we need a second car. Anyone have experience with the Mazda CX-7 or CX-9? Any other small- to mid-sized SUVs or crossovers to recommend? I have a Rav-4 and lovelovelove it, but he isn't sure he wants to have two of the same car, for some reason.
Re: Car recommendations?
My sister's ILs had one (I don't recall which model) and hated it. They said it didn't feel substantial and started making rattling noises after about 1 1/2 yrs. I've heard good things about the Nissan Rogue. I have a Nissan product (an Infiniti) and love it.
Edit - sister's ILs had a Mazda - not sure that was clear.
We have a mazda 3. It's not the SUV but we love the car overall. A coworker has the CX7 and she loves it.
My mom had a Nissan Murano and loves it. She has had 2 of them so far.
I have a hyundai tuscon and I love it. I would buy another again easily.
My sister has an Acura RDX and I've been pretty impressed with that as well.

My grandma has a CR-V and I love that thing. It drives so great and the new ones are cute! Plus I'm a Honda pusher. Get a Honda. You won't regret it.
I also have a co-worker who loves her Rogue a lot.
The nerve!

I can attest to that! Bethie used to have one. Who remembers the white-knuckle drive back from Boston Beer Works. I felt SO badly.
Does Nissan still make the Xterra? I like those.
Husbands should be like Kleenex: Soft, strong, and disposable.
If you want an inexpensive wagon with lots of room, we love our new Scion xB. They're funky looking but they grow on you fast. Plus Scion gives new grads $1000.
I rented a MAZDA5 once and LOVED it. My sister has a Nissan Rogue and loves it.
The hair grows in thick where the horn used to be.
I love our new Outback. The body was redesigned in 2010 so it is a lot fancier and roomier than our old one was. The gas mileage isn't what I thought it would be, but it's still pretty good for an SUV (25 city/30 highway). It's very roomy and was voted number one SUV in 2010 or something like that.
ETA: it handles well, too. It snowed shortly after we bought it and to test out the AWD and traction control, we slammed on the brakes on a snowy road and it didn't slide at all. And I love the all-weather package - heated seats, windshield de-icer and defrost on the side view mirrors.
11/11/11 = 5 years. Woah!
J has an xB, and we really loved it at first. It definitely has much more room on the inside than it appears from the outside. But I've found that now it's starting to fall apart a bit, and the ride is super rough and bumpy, especially from the backseat (I don't remember it being that way when it was new, but maybe I was blinded by the new car smell during that time). It's almost 4 years old, but that shouldn't be old enough for it to start crapping out on us. I got my scion tC at the same time and it's been nothing but awesome. So I don't know what his car's problem is.
I love Toyota's (which is who makes scion), though, so that's probably what I'll buy for life. My cousin has a Rav-4 which seems really great. And I used to babysit for a lady who had a Toyota highlander and it was awesome. She just recently traded hers in for a newer model, which is even nicer. But I drove it from time to time and loooooved it. So that's what I have pegged for my "mom car" (don't get any ideas, it'll be a while)
Geeeez. Hope you enjoyed that novella. Short version: I lika da Toyota
I'm a Honda pusher as well. I love my civic more than life. My experience with Hondas is that they live up to their reputation. Good mileage, easy to maintain, great value for the money. When Heith's Chevy dies, hopefully years from now, we will be getting a CR-V.
HONDA 4EVA.
