Diva Cup..best idea EVER

Really!  It's amazing.  Why didn't I get it before?

If you are on the fence...try it..it will change your life!

Re: Diva Cup..best idea EVER

  • Just wanted to add that I totally agree!  I've used it now for over 3 years, and I would never, ever go back.  I think every woman should use one! It really did change my life for the better long term, and how many times can you claim that for spending $25?

  • While I know that "change your life" is a strong phrase, I agree 100%.

It's just so nice to not have to worry all the time. I've finally got it worked out so it never leaks on me. I don't have to think about TSS and if I've left a tampon in too long. I can sleep how I want without worrying about a pad. It works great for working out and even swimming. And it lasts a loooong time - so cost effective and environmentally friendly!

  • Yes, I just LOVE that after my first heavy (sorry tmi) day, it's pretty much like my period doesn't exist.  I dump in the morning and at night, and that's it.  Nothing to remember to bring with me, no accidentally peeing on tampon strings (ha), no figuring out tampon timing/supplies.  I can just ignore my period!

  • Exactly!!

I could always "feel" the tampon and it never felt "right". I don't even feel the Diva Cup.  It's amazing.  I'm tempted to wear white pants tomorrow..haha

I totally agree! I used to think it was gross, but it's actually way less gross to dump it in the shower than to fiddle with pads/tampons.

  • Agreed!  So not gross; so much easier and cleaner.  I have converted 2 (IRL) friends so far!

Arrg I'm an idiot!  What a good idea!  (I'm only on my second month of Diva'ing).

  • I started trying the Diva Cup about three months ago and I am having a hard time extracting the cup.  I've checked out a number of online sources for suggestions but am still having a hard time.  I couldn't even bring myself to use it the last time.  I am 5'10" and 155 lbs.  I don't think of myself as an amazon but I feel it gets lost in there.  Any suggestions?
  • As another added bonus, it can make cramps better for some women.  I went from having cramps so bad I would be sick for the first few days if I couldn't take my prescription strength pain meds and muscle relaxer to getting by easily with two extra strength Tylenol.

KT, have you tried bearing down hard with your pelvic muscles (like you're doing Kegels) to get it out?  That's usually what works for me if I'm having trouble.

Bear down like your having a bowel movement.  While bearing down, use your thumb and finger to grab the end of the Diva cup.  Pinch the end of the cup and pull.  Be sure you "break the seal" or it'll be difficult to remove.  Pinching the end of the cup helps break the seal.  Then, I just use my fingers to "fold" it in a little and it comes right out.

  • I agree. I've never been able to use tampons (I have a mental block about them- when I was a child someone explained to me how they work by comparing them to hair clogging a shower drain and I have never been able to overcome that image) so I was using pads. The Diva Cup is so much better. It's been probably 18 months since I started and I've never looked back.

  • Yep, I do all those things and I still have a problem.  The last time I was bearing down so hard for so long I thought I should win an Olympic medal.
  • Twist as you're pinching/pulling as well. That's what did it for me.
  • Best $25 I've ever spent.  Now if only I had a good way to handle the PMS, my life would be perfect...
  • Great feedback and ideas ladies.  I'm going to start using it for the first time next month.

Question, does the sizing suggestion hold true?  The site says if your 30 and over keep the bigger size, but I feel that I'm still "tight" down there.  Even asked DH and he said he hasn't noticed a difference.

Sorry for the TMI Big Smile

  • Lol, I've used mine for 3 years, and turned 30 6 months ago and it didn't all of a sudden fall out or anything. :-)  I think you're probably ok with the smaller size as long as you haven't had a kid.

  • Shower idea...good call!!

I will agree with PP that sometimes (esp in the AM,) I think I'm never gonna get it out.  The shower was nice so I could ahh (tmi) squat and bear down to get it.  It seems like the AM is the hardest for me but the rest of the day it's pretty easy.

Are you pushing it in to far??  I'm still a newbie at this but I did push it too far one day and it was really hard to get out.  I push it in just far enough that there is a seal.  Twist and then I'm done.  Usually the tip is just inside and not actually all the way up.

    Ditto this.

I *LOVE* my Diva Cup too.  I was just telling DH the other day, "although I'm not pregnant, Sad, my lady-time gadget is flucking AWESOME."  He was like, uhh that's great?  He just doesn't get it!  So.much.better than tampons or pads.  I don't know how I ever had my period without it.

  • Agreed.

I was at the beach last month and forgot to pack it.  Ugh.  I didn't want to get tampons at the drugstore b/c I've gotten used to not having to change anything for 12 hrs.  So I bought Instead which is a disposable version.  Well, Instead SUCKS.  It didn't create a seal and I constantly leaked.  So I had to go buy tampons anyway.

  • Yes

I am just disappointed that I did not start using it sooner.

Instead is all about the positioning, because you have to wear it up around the cervix.  I used Instead for years before switching to the Diva Cup and Instead had a much bigger learning curve.  Still superior to tampons IMO.

I started my period unexpectedly at work a few months back and so I used a tampon and it was so uncomfortable!  I actually took it out about 30 minutes later and switched to one of those awful mattress thick pads because I couldn't bear the discomfort of the tampon.  I honestly don't know how I lived with tampons for so many years.

  • i totally agree with you ladies, i started using the Divacup about 3 months ago, and i'm never going back to tampons!  i even started my period while camping last week, and i never would have survived without it!
