I'm so frustrated! I have a Eureka power pet bagless vacuum, had it about a year. Til about a month ago, I LOVED it!! It picks up the white pitbull and cat hairs off my carpet REALLY well. But as of late, it doesn't pick ANYTHING else up! Not the cat litter, not bits of bones (the dog!), ONLY the hair. >:-O
I've cleaned it out, so nothing is getting stuck or stopped up. Maybe the brushes are a little?? The belt still runs (it's not broke), but I've noticed when the dammn thing vacuum is runing for 5 or 10 min, it starts smelling. WTH!?!? I'm stumped! The first 10 months(ish) with the vacuum I LOVED it! I have to clean it out a lot, but that's not a problem. But I'm getting irked at it not picking pieces up and shootin' stuff out the back.
*SIGH* Just had to vent! The dog got bone pieces ALL over the carpet and I couldn't get them all up, ended up having to SWEEP them! ARGH!!!! If anyone has any magic vacuum tips to try, I'm all ears!!
Re: Vacuum Vent!!
Its time to recruit the hubs.
Can't wait to meet my baby boy!
Boo! That sucks! I hope you are able to figure out whats wrong with it!
PS We LOVE our Dyson Animal. We've had it for about four years and it's amazing.
Hahahaha Nooooo, Tay! Chuck gets mad at the vacuum and knows NOTHING about it! I think he's (tried to) vacuum ONCE since we bought the house (a year and a half ago!), and he got frustrated cuz it didn't pick up fast enough for his liking! I think I'm on my own with this one! :-D
Yes it is! We have two medium haired cats and it's amazing. I can't promise the short hair - but I can say that it picks up so much stuff that I can't even see - so I would bet it would work! It keeps our litter box area nice and clean too.
I'm severely allergic to cats (can't live without em though!) and my allergies have been so much better the last few years with using this vacuum!
we have a kirby and love it. imo (and after lots of reading) all the dirt devil, bissell, eureka, dyson type brands are made out of plastic parts and work well for a while then just die - sadly a waste of money.
jaye - wow, that last bit about the allergies makes me wanna go get it now! (hmm... need to save for it, though.. those things are pricey!!) Chuck scored HIGH normal for pet allergies and every new pet we got (when we moved in together, I brought my cat. Then a year ago, got a kitten, then 7 months ago, our pit) he had an "adjustment" period with his bad asthma. Hmmm.....
Dianna - what is a kirby made out of?? I'm gonna have to do some research, I suppose.. bah.. lol
they are quite expensive too. but they do work well
The smell is a big hint to the solution! There is probably a filter somewhere on it that needs to be replaced. Our vacuum starts to reek of burnt hair when the filters need to be replaced, and it always works like new when we swap em out. So examine it top to bottom and look for a little compartment that contains a filter. If you can't find it, dig out the owners manual. Hopefully you'll be able to get a few more years out of it.
I have a Eureka Pet vacuum also and was having the same problem. DH said he looked at it and found nothing wrong, but once i tipped it over to take a look I noticed some of the hoses were clogged full of dog hair.
Try and snake the hoses as best as you can.
My next vacuum will be a Dyson Animal though, those things are amazing.

One of the things I love about the Dyson is that for being a complex machine, it's actually very simple to clean out and find things that get stuck. You can physically see and access all of the openings which helps me out a lot with clogs!
We had a bunch of vacuums that lasted less than a year each before we got Dyson and I was never able to fix them if there was a problem.
Oh and the dry carpet cleaning solution that comes with the Animal is amazing. We still have the same package from when we bought the machine and it's been four years!
