DH called a little bit ago to check in. He asked if we had any wine for when he gets home later; I told him no. He sounded disappointed so I said I'd go get some.
I realised when I grabbed my wallet that DH still had my ID from yesterday when we went out and I didn't want to bring a bag. I thought about not going, but the liquor store is right around the corner (1 minute walk), DH is friends with the owner, and I don't think I've been carded there in almost 2 years.
Wrong! I proceeded to make an awkward situation for myself as well as the guy behind the counter. "Ohhh....my husband has my ID...I was hoping *name of owner* would be here...I'm here all the time (ugh)..." the guy responds "they're just really cracking down" (read: "lame attempt! thanks for playing!").
I left the bottle on the counter and uncomfortably walked out of the store.
Re: Embarrassing story of the evening
Seriously? Seriously?!
I mean, you are young looking, but you are most definitely over 21 looking. Plus you are eloquent and married. WOW.
Oh yes!
Thanks for thinking of me as eloquent; that's so nice!
Nope, he's at work till 11 so he's out of luck. I'm fine without it, but I think he was looking forward to it after a really long shift today.
Ugh, so frustrating!!!
Lame
I appreciate that they are cracking down on sales to underaged kids, but seriously, who is 30 and looks like a teenager? Not me, that is for sure.
I went to a wine shop in Swampscott before a dinner party and DH had his ID but I didn't have mine and they refused to sell us 2 bottles of wine. I was 29 at the time. I had my wedding ring on. It was so stupid. I flipped out and Dh had to drop me off at the party, then go back without me.
Aww, poor DH. I can't believe all the crackdown stories you guys have; crazy.
Time to stock up at Costco!
One of the perks of living in MA :P I never even try without my ID since I have kind of a baby face. Though they don't ask as much as they used to. Do you have a passport around? It is no fun when you want a nice glass of wine and can't have one (this occasionally happens to me on Sundays, I never remember that places close at 6!)

Oh that sucks. I get carded all the time. I could probably pass for 18 on some days, especially when I am dressed casually and not in work clothes. Last time I went to buy a bottle of wine the cashier said something about me holding on to that "youthful look". I think sometimes they think I stole a family member's ID.
My worst "forgot my ID" story is when I went to visit some friends in a different city. While going through security at the airport, I had my license out, then I just quickly put it in the front pocket of my suitcase so I could get through the line. I forgot it was in there, and when I got into town we dropped my stuff off at their house, then drove 20 minutes across town to go out for dinner and drinks. It was a bar so they were carding everyone whether they were drinking or not, and I pulled out my wallet.... no ID. They wouldn't even let me stay in there just to eat. My friend had to drive me all the way back to her house to get my ID since her car is a stick shift and I don't know how to drive stick. So embarrassing!
