DIY Laundry Detergent Makers - A ?

Are washing soda and baking soda the same thing?  I've seen recipes using basically the same other ingredients (borax, bar soap) - only some say washing soda and some say baking soda.  Any help/tips are greatly appreciated!!

No, they are not. I use washing soda.

Not the same thing at all. You can find washing soda at stores also under the names "soda ash" and "ph up." Check in the pool aisle.

Thank you so so much!!  I couldn't find washing soda in the laundry aisle (at walmart - EEK! I'm in the process of migrating over to wegman's) and my DH suggested that maybe they were the same - good thing I didn't go ahead with it!!

Check some of your local grocery stores - it took me several, but I eventually found washing soda there and not at the big chains like Walmart or Target.

Thank you!  I was looking all over Walmart (we don't even have a target) but couldn't find it.  We do have a Wegman's though so hopefully I will find it there.  Again - Thank you!

We don't have those stores - we have Walmart, Tops, and Wegman's.  We used to have Quality Market but it was replaced by the Tops..  I think Wegman's will probably be my best bet

I found it at Safeway, but only the ones in the city and at Mars. I know Mars is a local Maryland chain...

I know I'm late at this, but did you find it at Wegs? It's in the laundry aisle! I buy the Arm and Hammer brand.

I did find it at wegs!!  I haven't made it yet (busy weekend) but I'm excited to try!!
