Tomato plant with brown bumpy spots on stem??

I have 5 tomato plants growing and only one of them has this issue. It is in a topsy turvy upsidedown planter and has all these brown bumpy spots along the entire stem of the plant. Some of the leaves are dying off too. It is still producing cherry tomatoes though. I have one other plant in a topsy turvy, 2 in the garden plot and one potted on the deck -- none on the other tomato plants have this issue. This is my first year growing veggies, so I have no clue what is happening. Any ideas??

Re: Tomato plant with brown bumpy spots on stem??

  • It's probably tomato stem primordia.  I have it on my tomato topsy turvy plant too.  It's caused by humidity and I think the plants in the topsy turvy are more succeptible because their roots are exposed.  I wouldn't worry about it if the plant is otherwise healthy.
