S/O Cleaning Wedding Dress

How much did you pay to clean your wedding dress?

In case you guys don't remember I got my wedding dress for a song and a dance ($150) since the store was going out of business.  I would hate to pay like $100 to get a $150 dress cleaned...but part of me thinks I might actually be able to make a profit off of selling it.  Hmmmm....

Re: S/O Cleaning Wedding Dress

  • Mine was right around $100 to clean and preserve (basically box it up I think).  And that was cheap - my mom took it to Iowa to do it because around here the estimates I got were $180 - $250.
  • These are the two companies I researched and then never got around to using:

Has anyone used either?  (although it appears we're all slackers when it comes to cleaning wedding dresses..)

I would think that a local place in Alabama would be far cheaper.  DH's sister's dress was cleaned by a local place in MS in 1999 (I saw the ticket still hanging on her dress) and it was around $50.  Of course, it was 10 years ago.

  • I used WedClean and was very happy with the results. I think it was $100ish.

  • I got mine cleaned and preserved for $230.

  • I can't remember what your dress looks like - but I have heard that if it doesn't have a lot of beading on it - you should be able to place it in a pillowcase type thing - and wash on the gentle cycle using woolite.

  • I think mine was cleaned and preserved for something around $115.  I can't remember exactly though.

  • My dress cost over $200 to clean, perserve and put in a special box. My mom really wanted to have it done so she took it to a dry cleaner that my dress shop reccommended while we were on our honeymoon and paid for everything. If it were up to me it would probably still be hanging up in a closet somewhere

Mine was really plain...zero beading, satin fabric.  However, venturing out to a bar after the reception left me with a dress that is solid black on the bottom.  I wonder if it is even possible to clean the nastiness out of it?
