this made me sad & angry

Every morning I go to the post office to pick up the mail for work. This morning on my way there I saw these two girls walking along, they couldn't have been older then 14. I know some people look younger then they are, but their appearance and their choice of clothes & accessories leads me to believe that they just couldn't be older then 14, at the most. They were both KU. Emotions I felt when I saw them, in order: disbelief, shock, sadness, anger.

I work in a not-so-great area, & sadly I am used to seeing 16/17 y/o girls who are KU... but these girls just looked SO young. It made me wonder... did they not understand they could get KU? Did they not care? Did they not have the education to understand how that happens, and if they did - did they not care? I really just wanted to hug them.

I would be interested to find out where those girls are in 5 years.

  • I work in one of our local high schools doing reproductive health for the students, and I know how you feel.

I noticed this past school year that the freshmen girls were WAY more promiscuous than the other grades, plus they all just seemed REALLY uninformed about sexual health. It was a really hard year for me to see so many 13/14/15 year olds who were having unprotected sex with many different partners, and seeming so indifferent about the consequences. I think part of it is just the mindset at that age that "it won't happen to me" and not really being able to envision the future with consequences.

It also makes me REALLY sad when I talk to these girls about why they're making these choices and a lot of them WANT to get pregnant. I think a lot of it is that these girls were abused as kids, and trauma from being sexually abused often times leads to young girls having high risk sexual activities, but having a baby is their way of feeling unconditional love from someone. It's really really sad.

It has gotten very scary & sad. I heard a story last week from my cousin in law that I can't even type on here or I'd probably get banned. Another reason to make me not want kids, lol
