My laptop just died and since I really only use it for surfing and Word/Excel, I'm thinking about replacing it with a netbook. (possibly a stupid question, but...) Can I print from a netbook? What is the argument for getting a new laptop instead?
I need to get something asap so I can start printing off resumes before the new school year starts.
Thanks
Re: Netbook??
Netbooks are basically small computers with more basic features (such as video cards). I have an asus eee and love it, but use it as my travel computer for grad school and trips. I have a desktop as my every day at home computer.
They print like any other computer as long as the proper drivers are installed, the one thing is that they are notably smaller than other computers. This means that they have smaller keyboards and can have tendonitis as a risk. I would not recommend anything smaller than 10 inches or so because the keyboard would get difficult to use, especially for men with bigger hands.
I really like the keyboard on my Toshiba, too. I went to many different stores and test typed on the keyboards. The Toshiba by far was the most comfortable to me. At the time I purchased it, I did have some statistic about it being the largest of the ones available, (in a ratio to a regular keyboard) but I'm not quite sure what it is.
I haven't done a direct print from mine, but it has been very easy to load anything I need, like PP said, as long as you have correct driver installed. Mostly I use it away from home, save to jump drive, then print. I think it's just personal preference and use.
For what's out there, the Toshiba's battery life can't be beat 9-11 hours!
Hi! I too have tested a few brands of netbooks and ended up purchasing a Toshiba. I love it, especially the battery life. It fits perfectly in my handbag as I sometimes take it to work and use their internect connection so I don't have to burn my Verizon connection.
I love the Skype feature. When I went to visit my mom in NC, she was able to have a video call with my son and his family. She reall liked that as she doesn't see them that often.
I would not recommend a netbook for anything other than casual web browsing. It's not good sense to spend $300 for a machine that can only do that when you really need a machine that can replace your current laptop (base models can be found for $400 sometimes on sale at Best Buy).
If you PM me with your budget and everything you think you might want the new machine to have as far as features/apps/etc, I can help you out (I'm in IT).
