The next project I want to start on is transferring all of our favorite recipes onto recipe cards. Currently they're all either saved on my computer or printed out and in a big unorganized stack.
I ordered a really cute recipe box from Etsy but I'm having trouble finding nice recipe cards for a reasonable price. I've looked on etsy and they were all either too hokey or too expensive (andplusalso...why would anyone want to buy only 12 recipe cards? Seriously? They need to make listings for bigger quantities!). I've would love to have them personalized but it's not an absolute requirement. I've done some google searches but everything is just so hokey! I want something classic and simple that doesn't cost a bagillion dollars. My top choice right now are the cards from Williams Sonoma but in order to put my monogram on them I'd have to buy the seperate monogram press thingy and do it all myself, which I don't want to do. I've considered making my own on vista print, but I haven't been altogether thrilled with the quality of their products I've ordered in the past.
Any other ideas of places I should look?
Re: Where to find recipe cards?
I've never made my own, but what if you tried doing something on plain index cards & laminating them so they are more durable? idk. Feel free to punch that idea in the throat if you don't like it! LOL.
p.s.: this is a fantabulous idea. I need to do this. We have probably 100 recipes printed out and crammed into drawers in our too small kitchen.
I tried this. A great place to get recipe cards from is "Current" catalog.
It was too much work and too small. So I just kept everything as is and I bought a binder to put everything into and organize it more.
You can find binders or recipe binders that are geared more towards keeping recipes and really nice and keep things organized.
I've been wanting to do this as well!!
The other day I looked up a recipe that I bookmarked a few months ago, and realized that a lot of my bookmarks are recipes. Between the bookmark clutter and the stacks of print-outs in a basket on my counter, it's definitely feeling unorganized.
I was thinking of just using index cards. It might be fun to buy either a monogram stamp or some cooking-related stamps to make some pretty, diy cards. Like, you could find a stamp that looks like a piece of pie and use that on all the dessert cards.
Let us know what you come up with!
For my bridal shower we did a tea party with gift baskets for the guests that had something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue. Our something borrowed were recipe cards that everyone was supposed to write their fave recipe on and send back to me (making it borrowed). We found the BEST recipe cards at Archiver's Scrapbooking store. I do not remember the brand but they came in pretty big packs but they were not personalized.
Good luck, what a great project!!
Ebay has some really cute retro ones...the ones that I've seen range from $3 - $5 for a 30 pk (including shipping). Just search "recipe cards" and you should get some options.
Here's what some of the recipe cards say at the top: "Shopping is cheaper than a psychiatrist", "Both of us can't look good at the same time...It's either me or the house". There are others too...they just made me giggle. I'm getting some for a friend's bridal shower.
