Going Green on the Red River (TMI for some)
So, I've been wanting to "Go Green on the Red River"for a while now. I was so against it at first but after this note on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/note.phpnote_id=410793171747&id=20713767&ref=mfveI finally decided to do it. DH thinks Im nutso and its too expensive to start up, but I tried to explain that the prices are a one time deal, so its not that bad. I figure once I order it, there's not much he can do about it
Anyways, If you use a cup, how did you decide which cup to get and which size? I found a sizing spreadsheet, but I dont understand how to size myself... do you know what I mean? Also, can you wear one of these while swimming? That's the only time I ever used tampons, so Im going to need a replacement for that, hopefully the cup will work. Any other advice about going green on your period post here! Thanks ladies!!
Re: Going Green on the Red River (TMI for some)
I just noticed the Diva Cup thread at the bottom. Makes me want to get one even more now!!
I have the Diva Cup and LOVE it.
I have tried Instead (which really isn't that green) and I thought it was crap. Total leakage for me.
I use a Diva too. Most cup brands have 2 sizes based on whether or not you have given birth vaginally or not.
They all will have a bit of a learning curve as far as insertion and removal go, but I haven used the Diva for 4+ yrs now and will never go back!
I wear mine while I am sleeping, swimming, doing whatever and never have any problems.
Good luck!
TTC since 2008
Me-29, paracentric inversion resulting in egg quality issues and higher instance of miscarriage. All other b/w normal. HSG/SIS- all clear
Lap 2/14 to remove cysts/endo

saving up for IVF
PAIF/SAIF welcome!
The first month or two it might be wise to wear a liner, until you are sure you have the hang of it. For diva cup: size 1 - never given birth (by any route) and under 30.
Best sound ever: baby's heartbeat! (Heard @ 10w1d)
I use Diva and I have size #2. I'm 29 (will be 30 next month), and I've never had a kid. I kinda felt at least for me I know I was close enough to 30 (when I geot it a few months ago) that I figured I'd go #2 vs #1.
I was most concered that I would "overflow" when i was thinking about it. I was a CRAZY super girl previously with my periods...like put a tampon in after shower and sometimes have to change before I leave the house kinda super. I've worn Diva all day (instert after shower, thru work and then home) before emptying and I never had a leak or overflow.
I don't notice any discomfort at all. It's wonderful. I don't know if I would try sposies first. Like pp said I've heard bad things.
I say go diva or go home.
Diva Cup is the easiest to find in North America. Other brands are around - my sister has a Lunette, but she got it in Australia.
Just buy the size they recommend. There isn't much difference between them anyway.
Expect it to take a couple months before you really like it. There is a learning curve. It's not always pretty. It's worth it, though. It works great for swimming and sports - everything but sex. That just can't work. Mostly, it works great for sleeping. I can sleep in any position I want, for any length of time I want. That's huge to me. I have woken up to a mess more than once in my life, and to be done with that is heavenly.
I agree that Diva is a life changer! I don't get the "wear it all day" benefit that soem other people do, and I have to use back up on the first night (heaviest) or so, but it is still worth it's weight.
I had some learning curve issues at first, namely figuring out how to remove it with out looking like I murdered someone in my bathroom, and without feeling like I was going to scar my lady castle for life. Removal is definatly an ADVENTURE to say the least, but once you get the hang of it, it is the bestest thing ever!
And let me tell you, there is seriously nothing that feels better than running it under warm water to heat it up a little bit right before putting it in, if you have slightly sore lady bits during this time of month, your life will change forever upon doing this! Heaven... GL finding something that you like, and let us know how it goes. I'm always looking for natural alternatives for my liners/pads I wear on heavy days.
BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA
*deep breath*
BWHAHAHAHAHAH
So funny in fact I just read to DH...BWHAHAHA
(it's cause I just had my own little moment in the bathroom earlier this week)
I can not image ever going back to tampons. I love my diva cup and would totally recommend it.
I ordered mine online from iherb.com. Since that was my first purchase from them I was able to use a code for $5 off my order. The code DIX357 should work if you are interested.
I bought the Diva Cup and the Moon cup and preferred the Moon Cup (UK). It is softer and shorter, which fit me better than the Diva Cup.
It takes a few months to get used to the insertion and removal of it. I highly recommend the warming of the cup with warm water. That will help with the insertion. I only insert/remove when I'm at home. Not sure how others remove theirs, but I squat down, relax and push. This process usually takes me about 30 seconds.
Don't be discouraged if it takes you a while to get the hang of it. I've finally reached a point where I'm comfortable with using it and it only took me about 3 cycles to master it.
