I'm from the Houston board, and I came over here a few months ago looking for a realtor to help us sell a house in Garland. What I did not tell anyone is that prior to coming on this board we had originally contacted a realtor friend of mine that I've known for over 10 years. Sadly, I considered him more of a professional than I should have given him credit, and we ended up having to part ways before we had even signed a contract with his realty group.
But that ended up being the best scenario, as it led me over here. You gals recommended a few realtors, and for that I am so grateful. As luck would have it, Miss Janel is a realtor, and DH and I decided to hire her. Before I go further, please keep in mind that both DH and I are attorneys, and DH has been engaged in countless commercial real estate transactions in the past. Needless to say, we have the potential to be a bear of a client.
We were both absolutely blown away by how professional and thorough Janel was throughout the entire process. The house was actually DH's grandmother's home, and we were handling everything remotely from Houston. Janel went over to the house numerous times to get it opened up and ready for showing. She did her homework, and presented a price point that she thought would sell. Her expertise was invaluable, as the house had a contract on it 3 days after we listed it.
But she didn't stop there. Stuck in the driveway was DH's grandmother's old 1978 Chevy Nova that had not been driven in a couple of years. Janel went over one night, popped the hood, jumped the car, and drove it around a bit to recharge the battery. This was all so that DH and I could handle it when we came in town the following weekend. Then, a week later when closing had to be delayed due to malaise with the title company, Janel went to bat for us and reemed the agent for delaying the sale since DH was in town just for the closing. Janel then helped us get all the paperwork in place so we could close remotely.
If you're still with me, here is the Prestige...the house was only valued around $65,000, meaning the commission was small. Then, a few weeks ago we get a little card in the mail, which had a BIG gift certificate to a fantastic steak house here in Houston. Honestly, I cannot get over how far above and beyond she went with this entire process. Janel is now our go-to agent in the DFW area.
Thanks, Miss Janel!! We absolutely loved having you as our agent. We hope to see you again soon.
Re: REALTOR RAVE: MissJanel
Seriously you crack me up. I absolutely loved working with you both and was so happy to be able to help you sell the house remotely. Thank you both so much!
Now that it's over I do have one confession though. A few weeks before closing was Santiago's birthday. I had to make a trip to ToysRUs to buy him a load of gifts since I was buying from all of our family who live out of the country and cannot shop online. I had him in the cart and was going through each aisle. He was getting fussy and in a poor lapse of judgment I gave him my keys to play with. I guess at some point I didn't realize that he threw the keys on the floor. I get to the cashier and pay. I need help getting to the car since everything I bought would not fit in my cart. So I'm pushing DS and this guy is carrying the tricycle and other stuff. He sits everything down next to my car and leaves while I start digging for my keys. Umm...no keys anywhere. I take the cart with my kid and abandon all the other stuff in the parking lot and fly past the cashier telling her that my keys are "somewhere in this store". I know I must have looked like a crazed lunatic. I was bailing though each aisle as quickly as I could but the store was huge. I was so frantic. Finally an employee came along with my keys that had been turned in some time ago. She looked at me in shock as I was practically breathless. I had to explain that I didn't give a rat's.ass about "my" keys but on my keychain was what "I thought" was the only set of keys to my client's beloved grandmother's mint condition 78 Nova with less than 50,000 miles. I honestly thought I was going to have to spend my entire commission getting the car ignition re-keyed. Which really wouldn't have been nearly as bad as just looking bad to my client's whom I valued so much.
