**Firedancer!

You bought your place thru Corcoran? What agent/office? I work in their Ft. Greene office, as an assistant! I heart Corcoran and used to work in their Soho office for 3yrs about 4yrs ago.

And tell me more about this apartment you just vacated in Park Slope... ;)

  • I tried to PM back but i don't think it worked...either the Nest is acting up again, or i'm just confused... :-/

My DH and i aren't *exactly* looking to move, but we are totally jonesing for pets right now, which we can't have at our current apartment! But i forwarded the link to my DH.

What building did you and your DH buy in? If you don't mind my asking... I met Denise LaChance a few weeks ago when i showed her one of my boss's listings in Brooklyn. :)

  • we are in crown heights, in the sinclair.  FHA-approved, baby!  there was no way we were ever, EVER going to afford our first downpayment without FHA availability.  we were looking mostly at townhouses in places like kensington, ditmas park, and crown heights for that reason.  but when this one came up, we loved it and figured that owning a condo is a nice step-up from renting, but without a lot of the other hassles like taxes (we have an abatement), and lawn work!

  • Hm...i'll have to google that building.

What do you think of Crown Heights? DH and i went to look at an apartment in CH and the apartment was okay but i was just a few blocks south of where we'd really like it. It didn't really feel too safe... But i'm sure there are good parts of CH. I'm starting to look at townhouses in Bed Stuy. We soooooooo don't have the money to purchase any time soon, but i just like looking and getting an idea.

  • we really like it.  we're about 1.5 blocks from franklin ave, which has bakeries, juice bars, markets, good restaurants, and whatnot.  the grocery store situation is less than perfect, but we get our fruits and veggies through a farm share anyway.

it's an extremely quiet neighborhood; we sleep with our windows open and it's silent.  we've both also come home late at night with no problems whatsoever.  mostly, it's families with little kids, and hipsters.  (basically...yep, i'm going to go there...it's like a carribean park slope.)

that said, we did have some theivery--somebody asked to be buzzed in to do work on the one vacant apartment left in the building.  neighbor buzzed them in, and they propped the door open and stole her bike out of the lobby. we are just developing our condo board--first meeting on monday--and have been talking about putting a camera in the lobby for safety's sake.  i used to see people SAWING CHAINS OFF BIKES in broad daylight when we lived in gowanus, though!

all in all, i can see us staying here a long time, and potentially buying a townhouse in this neighborhood when we do decide to sell.

  • I don't know that area at all but this "(basically...yep, i'm going to go there...it's like a carribean park slope.)" made me Smile.
