Anyone familiar with spider mites?

Multiple sites have said they only come out in hot, dry conditions (check), so spraying down the plant with a firm jet of water will get rid of them.  Will they go away forever?  How often and for how long should I do it?

Most of the sites indicate that it's kinda hit or miss with miticides, so I was gonna try this water hose method first.

Hosing the plant down will work for that day. What did you read about miticides? Sounds as if you saw something that makes you doubt whether there are any effective treatments.

i had orchids with spider mites.  i stuck them outside where they got hit with sprinklers on a daily basis, and when i checked a month later, no spider mites.  i honestly don't know how long it takes to get rid of them, but i'm a lazy girl and it worked.

I did the hose thing and it worked but you really have to do it every day. I got tired of doing it two weeks in and gave up. They totally took over my cucumber plants last year.
