Need Your 2 Cents...

so my sil is preggo and her baby shower is this sunday. this is the 1st baby/grandchild in dh's family. her pregnacy was super unplanned as she and her dbag boyfriend bought a overpriced house right when she found out. mil and me were planning to throw her a small mini shower. mini b/c she really has no friends and the only ppl that would go would be mil. me, boyfriends mom, my sisters, etc. well, about 3 wks ago her bf's mom called and said that she booked a private rm at a resturant for the shower...wtf we (me and mil) had no clue of this!! well, long story short mil and me are responsible for paying the $100 tip plus the cake. i really wasnt planning to spend all that much...gift wise - how much should i spend??? or is the tip and cake already enough??

backstory on why sil's boyfriend is a dbag - he ALWAYS talks about how much money he makes which isnt even all that much...hes like 34, works for a fire extingisher comp and makes like $32k a yr. wtf! he is sooo the one upper type. they only started house hunting after we did! im not the only one who thinks this - everyone but sil agrees with me. lol.

Anniversary

  • Sucks! I am sorry about the douchy in law....I would get a small gift to go along with everything.

How about making a diaper cake? That way, it looks pretty and it stocks them up on diapers, and isn't to much. I have made simple ones, and super elaborate ones, so you can make it fit your budget.

  • I'd get a small gift, but enter giveaways on blogs to win it.  But, then again, that's what I do for everyone regardless of if I'm spending more money on other things for them or not.  I can't tell if that makes me a horrible person or just horribly cheap... :)

Btw, http://www.prizey.net.  Look there for gifts to win.  :)  And yes, I'm addicted to blog giveaways!

That's a great idea. Or, make a bunch of cupcakes instead of a cake? That's what a friend did for me at my shower. Easier to decorate than a cake and cheaper than buying one from someplace. Plus, who doesn't love cupcakes?!

  • you should get a gift. thats apropriate for the occasion and that way you don't look bad. I co-hosted a shower for my ungratful cousin at my home but i still alloted $40 for a gift. But thats all she got from me. I bought the decor while her friend was in charge of the food. all together i spent $100. we split the cake which was Sams club and wasn't very good. but when your on buget you get what you get.

Yet i guarentee you if I said that her gift was the shower I would have been the cheap one and all kinds of crap would have been said behind my back. Thats the type she is and your IL's sound like the fit into the same catagory.

I do like the idea of entering givaways though. Free is always good
