Re: Gas in Greenville

  • DH went out to get gas a little bit ago and one gas station was 3.99, the next one down the road was 3.79, and he finally wound up getting gas for 3.59.  This was about 2 hours ago.  Is it really $5 eveerywhere in now?  That seems like a really drastic jump in an hour or two.

  • I don't know about everywhere....FI called to yell at me for not getting gas on my lunch break and told me that his dad was seeing it at 4.89 and .99 and that the BP and Citgo nearest FI's work had 10 gallon/fill ration signs up.
  • WOW where does your fi work?

  • Right on the Greer/Taylors line close to the interstate.  Yeah, he's not happy.  We have to drive to Asheville and back tomorrow, then Charlotte and back on Sunday to pick up his sis from the airport...ugh.
  • I work in the strip mall at the corner of hwy 14 and pelham.  They say the price for regular is 4.19 (cash).  However, the lady who works next door told us that when she went to fill up they were out of regular.  She managed to get 15 cents worth of midgrade then they ran out.

Makes me soooo happy I filled up two mornings ago.  It just makes me happy that this is all before the weekend and not during the week when I HAVE to drive!

  • I'm pretty convinced this is just a psychological "rush" on gasoline... very little legitimate reason for these consumer behaviors.  Seriously, yes they evacuated the gulf rigs, but the rigs WILL work again, and maybe 1 or 2 will be crippled by the storm but certainly ALL of them won't. It's highly likely many if not most of them will be operating in a week or maybe two?  And OPEC's decrease is only like 2% so that isn't the problem either.  It sounds lik veryone just got paranoid at the same time and all rushed out to fill up their tanks.  I've talked to friends all along the east coast and no one else has noticed this gas rush today.

It's just mass hysteria I tell you... I feel like it's Dec 31, 1999 and everyone is stockpiling for the Y2K disaster.

Yup, you're right.  That's all it is.  WYFF has a pretty good article on their website.  They are urging people to just stick with their normal gas habits, but people hear shortage and everyone rushes out to "top off".  There is no reason why the Spinx outside my work should be out of gas!

  • Yep.  I'm going to try to hold off until we head to Asheville tomorrow instead of panicking with the rest of these yahoos.
  • The kicker is that gas is $4.99 a gallon, and I just read on fox news where oil prices dipped below $100 a barrel today for the first time in 5 moths.... holy macaroni this is just crazy.

Though I'll admit when i heard about gas prices and shortages I immediately sent DH to top off both tanks :-P

  • My sister lives in Easley and she said a lot of places by her were out of gas.  She finally got gas at Ingles for $4.60/gallon.  Good thing-her light was on.   I usually drive til I'm on fumes basically, but today-even with 1/2 a tank-I filled up and told my DH to do the same.
