Pumpkins

Anyone grown pumpkins before?  This is my first year, and it's not going too well.  Both plants have developed small green pumpkins (the size of a marble), then they turn yellow, shrivel and fall off.  Some of the leaves of the plant on the bottom (I"m growing them vertically) are turning yellow, too, but the rest of the plants seem to be doing well.  Any idea what the problem is?

Do you have squash bugs. My pumpkins do that when I have a bad squash bug infestation.

I don't think so.  I googled them, and can't find any evidence of them on my plants.  I'm wondering if maybe not enough sun?

Have you tried hand pollinating?  Pumpkins are picky pollinators and really need have good pollination to grow fruit.  (female flowers will have a baby gourd, males will not)

They have been shriveling up and dying before their flowers open, so how would I go about hand pollinating them?  Thanks.

I'm thinking it's more not enough water combined with heat.  Pumpkins like lots of water. And if you have had lots of high temps lately, the leaves and vines may be stressed.

We've had several humid, 90+ degree days the last few weeks.  Maybe that's it.  I'll have to try watering them more.  Thanks everyone!
