Bell peppers getting sun burned?

We've only managed to get two good bell peppers off our 3 plants so far. Initially we had some that got bit by something and subsequently rotted from that spot out. We got that under control, but now the ones that are aaalmost ready to pick are getting soft spots on the side that faces the sun. It starts as a discolored spot and reddens and spreads as the days go on. Are they getting burnt? (I don't even know if that's possible) It has been super hot here lately. If so is it okay to still pick them, cut out that section, and eat the rest?

Re: Bell peppers getting sun burned?

  • Go ahead and pick them and cut out the bad parts.

Without seeing it, it's hard to say what is causing it. I just have a hard time imagining peppers struggling in the sun, because many types of peppers grow in such hot climates.

  • Yeah, it's weird - I know they should like the sun. I'll try to pip later today.
