GTG (Girls Get Together) in September in Chicago?
Hello,
I am Celia, married since October 2009 I and am part of the nestie book club. I was thinking we should have a GTG in September, the off-month from the book club. I think we should have a more general gathering so newbies and non-book club people feel free to join. As I understand, there were more GTGs in the past. I would be up for coordinating and planning if others are up for it. It would be in Chicago. Anyone have any ideas for GTG? Should it be dinner, drinks, something outdoors?
What do you guys think? Perhaps September 8th, 9th, 15th, or 16th? Vote what date would work best if you are interested and reply with your ideas. I will come up with more specific ideas as well.

I can actually do any day but the 9th, but the the 15th is best for me. I think this is a great idea, there are so many new people on the board and it would be great to meet some of you!

What does everyone think of Blue Agave in the Gold Coast (Viagra Triangle)? Good drinks, cheap food, good for a large group.
BIP - I'm also hosting the 2nd National GTG in Chicago from Friday October 22 through Monday October 25.
Currently there are quite a few nesties flying/driving in from various states and of course, the Chicago nesties board are more than welcome. I'll be posting more details as we get closer but the planning group has already started getting activities together.
As for one specific to Chicago nesties in Sept, sadly none of the dates work as I'll be in school those nights.
We should definitely do a GTG for the locals in the interim. Sounds like week nights may not be good for everyone, what about a saturday brunch?

Yes, a few years ago, I had a blast hosting it. It was pretty successful hosting a Nat'l What's Cooking Nestie Board GTG back in 2007 where WC nesties from 7-8 states came out to Chicago for a weekend. We all got together and I coordinated a few events for us. You can view pics and read about our GTG here:
Day 1: Chicago Dinner
Day 2: Pizza & Chocolate Tour
Day 3: Chinatown DimSum Brunch
I'm hosting it again in October and I'm looking forward to it! As for being surprised people would fly in, I guess it all depends on what kind of GTG you're planning and how close the relationships one has with people who are interested. I'm heavily active on the What's Cookin board and have met several nesties from around the country so it wasn't too much of a suprise that the nesties I've developed IRL friendships with would come out.
I think a local Chicago GTG should be done. There have been a few Chicago nesties that have broken off into their own private local group, of which I've been a part of (3 specifically since 2005... and I'm sure there have been more since.) These separate Chicago nesties groups meet regularly, even moreso if we have children for playdates. I'd encourage local nesties to GTG for happy hours, book clubs, brunches, etc - many Chicago nesties already do this privately after creating their own separate groups from this board.
I won't be able to attend events on weekdays/weeknights so have fun!
Just as long as you don't get blacklisted.
