for my mom. I want it to be a surprise because if she knew she wouldn't want me to do anything. She knows I want to throw a party for my little one. In my culture, when a baby cuts his first, we throw a party. At the party, the baby reaches out to a bunch of "stuff" placed in front of him and whatever he grabs is what he's supposed to be when he grows up. For example, Noah grabbed a Stethoscope... so he's "supposed" to be a Dr. If they grab a calculator, they're supposed to be an accountant, etc.
So... what should the "theme" be keeping in mind that this is more for my mom than my baby? I was thinking "Tea Party," but I feel like it's too cliche.
Any and all ideas are welcome and appreciated!!! )
Re: So I want to throw a party...
Sorry that I don't have any ideas. I just think it's a cute idea what your culture does!
Did your parents do that for you? If so, what did you pick?
I was thinking the same thing
No way?!?!?! That's so cool! I want to do this to a child to see if it comes true! haha
I think that is so cute what you do for the babies.
As for parties maybe a purse party? Its where everyone brings an old purse they have in their closet. the host puts some kind of prize in one of them. Everyone ends up trading they're purses by the end of the party. so you end up with a new purse. (kind of cool) the one with the prize gets an extra gift. *someone in my office told me about this*
I personally like the femme fatal party. Everyone shows up dressed to impress. Gowns, the whole bit. have assorted cocktails and finger foods and have the guys dress in suits or tuxes while serving them.
you could also theme a party from one of her favorite decades. maybe from her childhood and do activities she loved doing while she was young. example: If she enjoyed disco dancing get a mirrior ball and have disco playing in the backround. she and friends can get together and dance (makes for great photos)
or you could always go for the pool party this time of year maybe luau themed. give lays to people as they show up. tiki torches, grass skirts.....
Jen, where the heck were you for Casey's surprise party theme discussion??? lol
So many great ideas!!!
Can't wait to meet my baby boy!
How neat? What culture is this?
Ok so this is a tuff one, I would say something that's fun for Grandma but also remembers why your celebrating:
A "Monte Carlo" theme! Gambling because some Grams like to gamble and Luck because if your lucky he will get that stethoscope There are several companies that will bring and run tables; ie roulette, craps etc.
Or maybe an "Oscars" party, where everyone goes black tie and then you decide on categories, ie for your situation: Grandma of the Year, Shinning Baby Star, Future (whatever he picks), etc. You can have some other fun awards to include everyone or just set up the categories and people vote. It makes a super cute home video!
Maybe a Scavenger Hunt with a baby/grandma theme?
Good Luck!
i must have actually been working that day. we'll consult on the next party
