My co-worked was just telling me about this...
A female 9 months pregnant went into Walmart to go food shopping. When she was done she went through one of those " self pay " cash registers where you ring all the food in yourself. Well if you've ever used those before at Walmart.. the stinkin things never work right. So this female was having a problem with the scanner thing, and she called for some help. The employee supossedly fixed everything and she was all set. When she was done she paid for the groceries and headed out the door. Two store employees grabbed her before she left, saying she had shoplifted! I guess some items didn't scan through, which was the problem the store employee aparently "fixed". Well... they brought this female into the "holding room" where she was met by the police who proceeded to scream at her. The female stated she would pay what did not go through, and they allowed her to do so. The police said she fit the profile of a shop lifter because she had on a big t-shirt, flip flops, and because she was PREGNANT and only 22!! Thinking she wasn't financially stable enough to provide for herself would be the reason for her to shoplift. The female began feeling really dizzy and having contractions and told the cop who then said to her " oh, are we faking your pregnancy now!?". To make a long story short... they cited her and now she was to go to court. And she ended up in L & D last night with contractions because she was so upset!
Can you believe this!!!!!???
Re: What do you think about this...
I saw something on thenews recently and how retailers are really cracking down on shoplifting and "fighting back" because it's starting to affect their bottom lines and add to the prices they have to charge. Apparently, there are professional rings of paid professional shoplifters all over the country that are stealing thousands and thousands of dollars in merchandise to sell for profit each day. I remember reading about one hitting supermarkets in southern NH recently and talking about it with my dad (who works for a local chain) and he said it's all absolutely true and getting to be a bigger and bigger problem.
I'm not at all saying that what happened to this girl was justified, I just wanted to share that I've heard why there is such a serious response to shoplifters recently.
