I have one of those Topsy Turvy tomato plant things and the other day, went out to find 2 lime green caterpillars on the stalks. I left them there and today went out and they got bigger. One has eaten half of a green tomato, not sure what the other ate. Anyway, I removed them as well as the half eaten tomato. Does anyone know what these are? I grew my tomato's in the ground last year and don't recall seeing these buggers. My tomato plant also looks like it has acne on the stalks that come directly out of the bottom of the planter. As the stalks get thinner and then the branches off the main stalks don't have this. Any idea what this is?
Thanks!
Heather
Re: Caterpillars(?) and tomato plants
Those are tomato hornworms and they are Garden Enemy #1 when it comes to tomatoes. Those little buggers will destroy your plants. Kill them by picking them off and crushing them - well - at least that's what I did. I basically stoned him to death.
Link for more info on them here.

Ditto on the caterpillars.
The "acne" you are seeing are root buds. The tomato plant is trying to see if there is more dirt nearby to grown some more roots into. Its totally normal.
