what are you allergic to?
what symptoms do you show when you have allergies/allergic reaction?
Re: RQOTD - allergies
i remember in middle school i started having allergy symptoms. i would be hacking/coughing/clearing my throat all the time. i went to the doctor to get allergy testing done (got pricked on my shoulders 70 times with different allergens!) and found out that i was mostly allergic to dust, pollen, oak trees and feathers. for about 2 or 3 years i went weekly to have allergy shots. since i stopped, i dont regularly hack/cough/clear my throat... i have never had a real allergic reaction to any of these things (like throat closing up or rash) - but i do find during certain seasons I get stuffy/coughing/hacking more....
I have only had allergies once on Guam- that was right after coming back from Texas in the spring...lots of oak trees, lots of pollen! i think I brought back the allergies with me :-/
I have allergies to meds (penicillin, amoxicillin, bactrim, benadryl). Im also allergic to cheap/metal jewelry (I can only wear sterling silver, platinum, and certain types of gold). Also, after a recent allergy test Im supposedly allergic to peanuts, wheat, and various trees...
For these allergies above, I have really only experienced rashes and swelling that I can remember.
I was diagnosed with dermagraphism- my skin becomes raised/rash/inflamed after scratched/stroked/rubbed, etc. Sucks.

I was first tested in 1st grade and was retested in 2001. The 2nd time I was allergic to 32 of the 33 things they tested for!
I get bad congestion, sinus headaces, stuffy nose, and hay fever.
I have seasonal allergies, and I'm allergic to cats. I get itchy/watery/heavy eyes and a runny nose. When it comes to cats, I have all of those same reactions, plus I get really itchy.
For seasonal allergies, Benadryl (at night, since it knocks me out) followed by a Zyrtec or Claratin in the morning usually does the trick, but my dr. said I can no longer take Benadryl unless it's absolutely necessary, because it could be bad for the baby. :-(
When I'm around cats, I have to prepare myself and load up on drugs beforehand or I'm doomed.
I have seasonal allergies like the pollen and stuff.
On a strange note...when I was a senior in HS I got mono. A couple of weeks/month after I got well I started getting some knots and bruising on the bottom parts of my legs. After lots and lots of tests the drs told me I was allergic to the actual mono virus. strange.
