Our AC at the house decided to call it quits this weekend. Does anyone have any recs for a trustworthy company around Nashville to look at it? Also, would you recommend the brand that you have at your house? We've been doing some research on what type to get if it has to be replaced. It seems like every major brand has bad reviews. I guess it's hit and miss like everything else! Thanks for any help you can give!
Re: HVAC recs?
I'm in a similar boat! We moved here about two weeks ago and when we arrived our house's AC wasn't working. Our realtor gave us the number of the HVAC company that had come out to inspect the unit in the end of June before the closing- figured I should check with them to make sure it was in working order when they looked at it. The company was called One Hour HVAC and we thought they were TERRIBLE. Said they'd come Thursday evening, didn't show up, but when I called I was told that they must be on their way... Called three times on Friday and finally was told that they were scheduled for 3:30-4 on Friday afternoon... to which they never showed up. Called Friday night and they said the next available appointment was on Sunday and it was stand-by so it could be anytime. I said no thank you, and then, magically, the guy woke me up at 8 am when I didn't even have an appointment.
We had someone from Copeland and Son come out because they were the only one who could come quick and we were roasting. The guy did a pretty thorough job taking apart the unit and did follow up on Monday like he had promised. However, for some reason he didn't put the machine back how he had found it...? Left screws on top of the unit and this caused a lot of drama when the home warranty people came to look.
Someone recommended Hiller Plumbing and HVAC to us but they were booked for a few days and we wanted faster. Maybe something to look into? www.hillerplumbing.com
The HVAC company I use is local to my town, so I'm not sure if they would be a good match for you, depending on where you live around Nashville. We have a Carrier unit, and it has been a dream! I was very hesitant moving to a house with electric heat and this one certainly does the job. The previous owners purchased the 10 year warranty, we have it serviced 2x a year, and that way if anything goes wrong, anything at all, we don't pay for it.
I think any brand can have a lemon, or a design flaw. For a major purchase, I think the warranty is well worth it, whichever brand you decide to go with.
As for a large local servicing company, my mom has been really happy with Hiller. She has a service contract with them- same thing 2x year. For certain situations, they will come out at off hours. (I think no heat in the winter?) I'm sure they're backed up now, but that's bound to happen!
Linzee....Welcome to Nashville! Hope you're enjoying it.
Thanks to both of you for your input. We've set up about 4 appts over the next few days so I hope to find someone we are comfortable with using. I'll definitely have to look into the sevice contract that you are talking about Shammy. That sounds well worth it.
