I'll post on TK as well, but thought I'd ask you ladies as well.
A good friend of mine here in PDX just got engaged and is looking for help finding a venue. They want to keep the whole thing around $5-6K for about 60 people I think.
Due to his law school commitments, they can really only get married in December or next June. Anyone have any recs?
Re: Wedding venue recs
My amateur photo blog
A good friend of mine owns The Ainsworth House in Oregon City and I know they have packages for that number that would fit in their budget. www.ainsworthhouse.net
My parents are planning their 40th anniversary/vow renewal at The Broetje House in Milwaukie. So far they've been fantastic. My parents are definitely not big spenders, so I know it'd work for your friend. My parents expect 30-50. I'll post a review after the party (it's Sept 12).
There are a million other options. Knowing what kind of venue they'd like would be helpful - basic area of town, type of atmosphere, etc.
I actually sent her the link for the Ainsworth House before you mentioned that!
They are thinking either Dec 16,17 or 18th so that limits it to indoor sites. They would prefer the greater Portland area or within an hour but I think the closer to PDX the better.
And unfortunately, McMenamin's is out as they do not care for their beer.
I got married at The Jenkins Estate in Aloha, and LOVED it. We had planned for an outside wedding, then it rained at the last minute, we had to move everything inside, and it was GREAT. We got married in the upstairs of the horse stables, and had the upstairs and downstairs set up for the reception. I loved everything about it.
Of course, this was 5+ years ago, but it was a very cheap venue compared to other places, back then.
Their website sucks, you'd have to actually go there and check it out.
MrsJ, I think I whore out Ainsworth too much, but I absolutely love Kevin (the owner). I wish he'd been in business when I got married one million years ago!
I was also a December bride, so I started racking (wracking?) my brain for places we looked into. There are loads of places that can accomodate 100 or fewer, so they didn't work for us, but I remember a few we looked into. I have no idea where they fall price wise these days.

We got married at Kells downtown. They have some nice rooms upstairs. If you meet the per-person food minimum, they wave the rental fee. We had about 75 people, so food, drinks, tables, chairs, service, plates, etc was about $3K or 3.5K. Weddings were pretty new to them, so they didn't do the red carpet planning treatment that other places do - but everything turned out really well and it was SO easy. The servers were fantastic and everyone really enjoyed the location.
Other places to look are McLean House in West Linn, Lerch (spelling?) Botanical Garden in SE, and the lake house at Blue Lake.
