DH and I have been house hunting again and went to see a house last night. Maybe it's just me, but if I were selling a house I'd want it to be spotless esp. if someone weren't living there. We were in a home last night and I was looking through the kitchen and all the cabinets were REALLY sticky! YUCK! Then I looked in the cabinets and there were crumbs and outlilnes of cans in there. You think they would have at least cleaned it up a bit.
Another house we looked at had a light pink colored living room then a NEON PINK bedroom. It was so bright in the bedroom I had to leave quickly before I got a head ache. Seriously what do some people think?
Re: House Hunting Ickyness!
It cracks me up to see how people decorate... Just house hunting ONLINE sometimes causes me to laugh out loud. Seriously there was this one house where the bedroom had piles of LAUNDRY on the bed! I was like "could you not put that away before taking a picture?!?"
Hope you find something great!!
I can understand some things, esp if they have kids, but how hard is it to clean up after yourself when you know that the house is going to be shown? We saw some of the grossest houses when we were looking. I don't think people realize that most people can't look past things like that and just see the house. You really have to stage it to sell it.
I'm sure people are going to have some interesting things to say about our house when we put it up for sale. Rowen's room is painted a color called Bouncy Bouncy, and it is a very tiggerific orange! He wanted that color so bad and loves his room... but bright orange isn't for everyone, and I'm not going to make him change his room right before we do something huge like move.
Wait till you see before pictures of my house, you will die. It was disgusting and to be honest, it wasn't much better when we moved in. I mean their furniture and what not was gone, but the house was DISGUSTING.
But it is the reason we got such a good deal on our house....
When we were moving out of our last house the landlord kept wanting to show it while we were still in it. I kept saying "We are in the middle of moving cross country. Boxes are literally EVERYWHERE and we have three cats and a dog. Don't you want to wait to show the house until it will SHOW better?" She did not, and surprise surprise-it did not rent.
I'm totally with you on this one. In fact we saw a house this weekend that wasn't necessarily icky but should have been a little more on the neutral side. I mean it's even a recommendation by realtors that you repaint the house a neutral color so that the people looking at it can picture it theirs.
Anyway this house must have been owned by an amateur decorator. They had painted the stairway/hallway green and texturized it with a sponge. On top of it there were bright stars painted with studs hammered into the centers. You know like the things in a leather couch. That was just half of it. We laughed most of the way through the house.
I was just watching My First Sale last night on HGTV and this chick had her living room painted hot pink with a lime green wall. The realtor told her to paint it and she got pissed. Does she seriously think that future owners going to be all excited to have a hot pink/lime green living room??? People are crazy.
