S/O House icky...My Pink Bathroom

I posted over on D&R today about this bathroom, but I thought I would share with ya'll as well.  This is our 1/2 bath that is on the main floor.  It's not going to get gutted anytime soon, but I am going to take off the wallpaper and paint the walls and trim (which is currently cream) WHITE.  And I'm going to put in a new window shade (there are ugly white curtains up now).

The picture below is from before we bought, but really we haven't touched it, but all the matching pink is gone.  So... tell me ladies, what would you do to make this bathroom better, without changing the tile, the floor or fixtures???? LOLOL.

Re: S/O House icky...My Pink Bathroom

  • Funny you should mention this.  The house we put an offer on has a picture up of the bathroom sink and in the reflection you can see a pink tiled shower.  But the shower was recently painted white.  So maybe that's a solution to the pink tile in your bathroom.  Other than that I would replace the curtains with maybe a roman shade from ikea.

  • Oh wow. Pink is my favorite color but not for a bathroom, lol. Have you looked into having the tile glazed white? I think that can be done...I've heard bath tubs getting this done, so I'm not sure if doing this to the tile is an option.  What about some peel and stick tiles for the floor? And definately a nice roman shade would like nice.  Sorry I'm not much help.  I know how you feel tho...we bought an old home 5 yrs ago and I'm STILL living with a bright green tiled kitchen...ugh.

  • We had a pink bathroom too and it was actually worse than that!  For that style I would get the spray can at home depot (don't remember what it's called, but it's like spray paint for that kind of tile) Then you can paint over it any color you want with regular paint.  My old house was like that (only blue) and it was painted white and looked great.

It's not hard to do at all, but the fumes are very strong, much worse than those of spray paint.  So you'll need to do it with the window open.  HTH!

  • I never would have known you could spray over it, that is wonderful to know!!

  • Well, my first inclination is to just take the pink and run with it, lol!  Retro pastel kitchen decor like cupcakes and sundaes with a cherry on top come to mind.  :)

That is my silly idea, but until you can overhaul the bathroom, I think pp's suggestion of painting sounds like a good option!
