Anybody live around the new bern area? What is there to do around here?
Re: new to NC
I am not really sure if there are many New Bern nesties. I lived in Beaufort for a year, it is not too far from New Bern. It is a cute little town. You can head over to Atlantic Beach if you are interested in going to the beach or Fort Macon if you are into historical sites.
Welcome to NC.
Hi and welcome!
I'm in Charlotte, so no recommendations on the New Bern area... but I hope you enjoy it!
hi there! I'm new to NC as well so I'm not a ton of help. The only thing I've been to in New Bern for is to attend the Marine Corps ball the past 2 years. Last year we planned to do some touring but it ended up pouring down rain. I do remember walking around a downtown area that was really cute. There were lots of local restaurants and cute shops. New Bern is the home of Pepsi, so there is a fun Pepsi store that serves real fountain Pepsi (no diet though).
I'm pretty sure there's a historic house or plantation there with a pretty serious garden. Also, there's a Marine Corps air station (Cherry Point) there. I've heard they have some air shows from time to time that are supposed to be pretty neat.
Welcome to NC! (I'm learning to love it here already!)
I just replied to your other post... but I thought I could help here. I am in Newport and just moved here in June but I can tell you what I know. I would love to talk to you more anyways... I know almost nobody in this area! In New Bern, there is a really nice downtown area you can walk around in. There is a little Ballroom dancing school there called Rivertowne Ballroom. It's okay but not really my thing since they like to switch partners for every dance and I'm a one husband type of gal.
Morgan's Tavern is a good restaurant and its in the downtown area too. There are also some okay antique stores. In my area, Newport, there is a flea market which is pretty close to yucky. You can try some of the Morehead City stuff. Morehead just opened a Olive Garden and has bands play on their waterfron walk every Friday or Saturday during the summer. The walk in Morehead is cute but small. If you go to the Crystal Coast area, Atlantic beach is okay. Small boardwalk and pretty beach with some restaurants but it is pretty busy. We usually drive down a little farther to Indian Beach. There is a really great little BBQ restaurant with amazing hush puppies down by Indian Beach. I will try to find the name for you.
Other than what I have mentioned, go to Jacksonville. It has a small mall and a Sam's Club. Also has a Cold Stone which we love. Hope I helped somehow.
