Since I don't know how to send a PM apparently......
I have a question for you. You replied on my post on the Pets Board about Pasco coughing mentioning you thought it sounded like kennel cough since he's hacking up what sounds like a hairball....great.
We are going to call our vet tomorrow. Do you think we need to take him in? he's still eating and playing, just has this cough. We are going to talk to the vet about Vitamin C and how much to give, but I don't want to spend money on a visit if there is really nothing the vet can do. Obviously if he becomes lethargic, not eating, I would take him in.
I think he got it from his time at Lazy Dog Crazy Dog....which is sad because we loved it there and so did he.
Re: Em
Gah, sorry! The damn Oregon board loads like 3 times a day for me, so I didn't see this until now.
I would probably take him in to a holistic vet so he can be diagnosed and get some meds to help him feel better. Since we now know what kennel cough is like, I would probably just call my vet and tell them what's up and see if they can give meds. But, since it's the first time Pasco's showing the symptoms I'd take him in just to be sure that's what's really wrong and it's not something else that you should be concerned about.
He probably did get it from LDCD. On the other hand, though, it's so contagious that he could have picked it up on a walk after sniffing the grass another dog coughed on. I guess what I'm saying is that it's not going to prevent us from boarding Nandi there in August, and we still take her back to the daycare that she picked it up at a few months ago.
Also, our vet said that the intranasal vax isn't as effective as the one given by injection. So, we'll be giving the injection when we get Nan done before taking her to be boarded. I'm sure she'll loooove that.
Thanks Em,
We called our vet and they think it's viral. They told us to take his temperature...that a fever runs with a bacterial version of Kennel Cough but not the viral one, we do have an appt on Friday to take him though too, just to be sure.
I didn't know that about the fever - that's cool! Nan feels (and rightly so!) that her booty is for exits only, so taking her temp would be a no-go for us. I keep thinking I should get a muzzle and get her used to it so that at least the vet can do it.
I hope he feels better soon!
